Default Daytona 24 Grand Am Qualifying Pictures

Daytona weather in January is notoriously fickle. This year, it couldn't have been more perfect. Azure skies, a light breeze, temps in the mid-70s. Rolex GT/GX qualifying was 15 minutes long and went green at 4:10 p.m.

But first, there were two new liveries that had the paddock buzzing. The #64 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 had nearly every color EXCEPT Ferrari red.

And the new #13 Rum Bum Racing Audi R8 had the "traditional" Rum Bum livery that was so bright it could be seen with your eyes closed.

And, as always, at Daytona in January...there were tires. Plenty of them, all mounted, marked, and ready to go.

Nick Tandy led a Porsche sweep of the top three spots in GT qualifying with a lap of 1:47.631 (119.074 mph) in the No. 32 Konrad Motorsport/Orbit Porsche GT3.

The reigning Porsche Cup winner was 0.197 seconds clear of Andy Lally – last year’s GT race-winner – in Magnus Racing’s No. 44 Porsche GT3. Sean Edwards qualified third for MOMO/NGT Motorsport in the No. 32 Porsche GT3 at 1:48.007 (118.659 mph).

Shane Lewis is in the record books as the first pole winner in GX. He set a time of 1:54.606 (111.827 mph) in Napleton Racing’s No. 16 Porsche Cayman. Ryan Eversley qualified second at 1:58.221 (108.407 mph) in the No. 38 BGB Motorsports Porsche Cayman. Andrew Carbonell was third for Freedom Autosport/SpeedSource in its No. 25 Mazda 6 at 2:00.740 (106.145 mph).

The 51st Rolex 24 at Daytona is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. SPEED’s live coverage begins at 3 p.m.

Awesome pics...Thanks!!!

Nice to see the GT3 qualify in the top 3 spots in the GT class. Maybe the other marques weren't sandbagging at the Roar after all...

Porsche was 1-4 in GT and 1-2 in GX.

we need a Porsche powered DP car to combat those BMW's and Corvettes

Porsche running in all 3 classes would definitely make for a spectacular GA season...oh well, I guess we'll have to settle for two out of three...

By the way, Brumos Racing ran an ad in the Wall Street Journal last week looking for Daytona 24 sponsorship. The #59 car had NO new sponsor stickers on it Thursday.

Great pics!

So where can I get full results? I've looked on spped.com (not a peep or even a schedule there because it's not Nascar) and GA.co doesn't have them, only up thru practice 8.

Edit: Found them. Not easy though. Shane Lewis is 4 seconds faster than P2?!?!?! GX has a pretty big spread.

TRG cars are a ways down there as well.

S load of Pcars though

Porsche really needs to field a mid engined car. The rear engine platform clearly is not competitive.
