Good point, but these things get plenty greasy past 34psi. Do you run Hoosiers? I wonder if the grip somehow comes back as they get to the supposed "sweet" spot of 36ish psi...

Despite what people are told, in various around the paddock, the only way to really determine optimum hot temperatures is with a probe tire pyrometer.
916, yes, buy as many Z214's as you can. they are fantastic.

I'm one of the other 9 that Rokket was talking about. One tire was as bad as the pics above. Yesterday, I started moving my wheels around and noticed the other rear has a small section starting to do the same thing...so mark me down for both rears bad.

Are these tires that are having problems all the same size?

I've been told, since I also had this problem, that it's the starting pressure that's causing the problem and not the running or hot pressure. To solve it I start them at 36-38, warm them up and then come in and bleed them to 36 psi. A PITA for sure, but no problems since.
Also, the load rating on the 285/35 R18’s that I was using is lower than that for the 295/35 R18 R6 that’s almost the same width.

Low 30s hot are TOO LOW for a car over 2500 pounds. You would have to start at the low 20s and that could damage the tire. My 2300lb car is fine at upper 30s to 40, which is what Hoosier recommends.

I'm far too lazy and never inflate the tire on the morning of day two. I just leave it overnight from the prior days last session. Then the next morning is cold, pressure is probably down in the low 20s and there you have it.
I guess I'm going to have to change my habits.
