Default 996GT3 Race Weight in NASA vs PCA and POC

I'm considering caging my 6GT3 and would like to comply with GCR of PCA and POC (which look the same) and NASA.

I don't presently race in any series, I'm just thinking about potential applications.

For PCA and POC the cage with mild steel tubing must be either 1.75 x 0.095 or 1.5 x 0.120 for cars over 2500 lbs.

NASA uses the same tubing for cars between 2501 and 3000 lbs; the requirement for 3001 - 4000 lbs is 1.75 x 0.120.

If the car runs at stock weight of around 3180 lbs, NASA requires extra heavy tubing while POC and PCA don't.

What weight do folks run 6GT3 with NASA?

BTW I'm inclined to use the 1.50 x 0.120, since the smaller tubing can get a little tighter to the chassis.

Thanks

You'll probably run in a NASA GTS class. If so, the formula is a simple RWHP to weight...go from there.

Also, keep in mind that the main hoop requirements for NASA differ from those of PCA, i.e. only four bends, which precludes any bends to keep the bar tight to the roofline.

Thanks, Kai.
I noticed NASA's four bend rule.
I'm not looking to get crosswise with anyone, just curious: if the main hoop has a mild bend at the roof mid point (a fifth bend) would the rules be strictly enforced?

The rules is the rules.... Last thing you want is to have to rebuild your cage. Build it to spec. I've found the NASA folks in GTS to be pretty strict about enforcing rules, especially if you win (and when tires are on the line). After my last NASA win, I had one of the scrutes run up to my car and check my socks.

I had the same thing happen Gary. I showed him my socks were on then asked what the penalty would have been and he said no penalty, but they would note it in your log book and 50.00 fine next time. Glen may have been wearing designer nomex Stand 21 socks.

Thanks guys I got the message.

OK, 4 bends, no problem.

It's relatively easy to get a GT3 below 3000 lbs, is that what most NASA racers do with them or do they run heavy?

It's really all about what class and which organization you want to run. You're car in OEM trim dynos at around 340 rwhp on a Dynojet, the required dyno for NASA. You could run in GTS4 with R compounds, or GTS5 against cups with slicks. In PCA you could be in a letter class if the car's fairly stock or their GT classes which are based on engine size not WHP....

Checkbook racing at its finest.....the guys with the most $$$$ can sway things in their favor.....but the one thing their $$$$ can't buy them is SKILL on a racetrack!!!!

Complete Bull **** and beneath you. Are you saying that someone protested another driver for their socks? That's just a little too weird even down here in la la land. We do occasionally check for driver safety equipment like socks or balacavas at impound, but never in my 10 years of racing with POC has anyone been DQ'd for socks. Simple write up in their log book at most.

Your comment about "checkbook racing" really stinks of class envy/warfare. You'd better have dates and names to publically back up that accusation or I want an appology on behalf of the POC of which I'm a BOD member. You've never even run with us. How dare you insult our 700+ members with your cheap gossip.....

Thanks, JR. As you suggest, the car would race in NASA at less than 3000 lbs.

I am replacing the cage in one of my cars as it will not comply with SCCA specs.
The "Matter" style cage (GT3 Cup) has a main hoop that is not in the same plane as SCCA requires. It may be that since a car that came from the factory with a FIA
certified cage it is ok, but copying the cage without the FIA certification doesn't grandfather it in with SCCA rules.

I have a 6cup that I run with nasa. I weigh in at about 2650 lbs. I restrict the car down to about 320 to stay in GTS4.

Are you running R-compound instead of slicks on that car? And is that a weight without driver? A ratio of 8.28 would put you in GTS5.
