Agreed^ The Dunlops are 1.8 secs faster than the Yoko's at Watkins Glen (3.5 miles)I ran them back to back on 1st HC same day in a 2700 lb 911. Yoko's have softer side walls so you will feel the side wall squirm. I have not run the Dunlops and Michelins back to back on a cup but I would expect the Dunlops to be fasters for the ultimate lap. Michelins to my butt feel more of a harder endurance tire over the Dunlops. I can't speak to Pirellis, the Hoosiers do not match Michelins.

Try the Dunlops the non cup Michelins sa7 and sa8's are crap.

Dunlop have all sorts of different versions available around the world. Can you give any details on these ones you guys are using?

I have run Dunlops on my car, which is similar to yours, for three years and my tire sizes would also be similar - 300/650/18 rear and 285/650/18 fronts. They really are an excellent tyre.

When I ran in the Dubai GT series I never had the budget of the other teams, some of which were using two sets of tires per weekend and I was forced to run them for two or even three weekends sometimes, each with two or three 20 minute practise sessions, one 20 min qualifying and a 1 hour race. Although they do degrade, I was typically only loosing a second a lap per weekend. With such a big tire on a 944 they rarely actually wear out and I have used old ones for practise and they seem to keep their grip level remarkably well even after dozens of heat cycles.

Only catch is Dunlop Australia don't stock the wide sizes in an 18 inch 650 which is a problem. to get my sizes I need to order from the US or UK. 660s or bigger are just too big for the 944.

Too big unless you modify the body quite a lot. Zoran has done that on his car. Now fitted with the tallest of Michelins but I don't think he's actually driven on them yet.

Wonder what the Aussie Sports Sedans run on and are they on a control tyre or is it a free for all?

I actually preferred 640s which I used to run on before I went to a wide body. Anything bigger than 650s required a lot more power to make the gearing work plus the car has to run slightly higher ride height.

The Michelin N1 Cups are 18 inches and cost $2,600 a set uo here - ouch!

They'd probably cost something like $1000 per tyre down here based on our normal stupid inflation of costs!!!
