Races and test (promoter's) days. LRP has one almost every week. NHMS is every Thursday. Most tracks have a decent number of test days.

SCDA allows open wheelers, Chin as far as i know allows, group52, plus now with all new owners of atom cars at VIR it should not be a problem to find a venue to drive with.

most test days will require some kind of race license.

some test days like a national race will restrict it to entrants.

I would guess most folks with a FF, FC, FA, etc would be racers and would have the license. I have yet to meet someone with one that doesn't race.

Most test days are fine with a provisional or novice license, which is a bit scary if you think about it. Very few events have enough numbers to restrict testing in the open wheel categories at even the biggest national events.

Open wheel de type stuff can be found at some of the club type tracks. VIR and NJMP have an open wheel group for their member days.

After two decades of racing MX, I got into PDX with our 911. Ended up buying a spec 944 which was retired from NASA for track days. I would advise you to do the same. A normally aspirated 944 classes in TT-6 in SCCA which I race in. I'll be putting some serious coin into the car this winter to catch up on the maintainance on but the little 944 dose well.
