Toyo's new RR tire

Tires were picked up Tuesday, and should be at Toyo now. The only update I have is that Toyo sent me a new set of tires for our next enduro at Road America next weekend. I'm going to start with higher pressures, and collect some tire carcass and tire pressure data through the weekend. Based on the tire wear, my guess of a 28 PSI starting pressure was too low. Next weekend, the enduro is at the end of the weekend, so I should be able to get the tire dialed in better. We will also be stopping more during the enduro to check on the tire. Neal & I have sewn up the E3 championship this year already, so we will use this enduro more for data gathering, and tire development. Still, Road America really suits the 944's strengths, so maybe we can still be competitive with an extra stop or two

Links or pics of these new tyres?

This is not the RS-1 (slick), it's the RR, which is very much a DOT tire. Recommended hot pressures are similar to the RA-1 - high 30's to low 40's. It does have a bit more stiff sidewall, so I lowered my usual starting pressure a bit. I'll be able to give better data on this after next weekend, when we can test tire temps, and pressures in detail. The tires arrived hours before our last enduro, so it was just a bolt on and guess situation.

Toyo's RR is adding to the array of DOT R slicks for 15" nearly matching section width, tread width and diameter of BFG R1, R1s, Kumho V710, Hankook Z214. Curious that none of these is sized the same as 15" DOT R Hoosier R6, A6, with about 10 percent greater section width and tread width.
Curious that Toyo introduces 15" before 17, 18, 19.

The intro sizes are to fill the pipeline with tires for NASA's Spec classes. The 15's exist for Spec Miata, Spec E30, and 944 Spec. I'm not sure how far behind the rest of the range is. Unlike the R-888, there was a lot of preproduction testing done for these sizes to make sure that they work well, even in those smaller sizes. 944 Spec runs a 225/50/15 on only a 7" wide rim, for example, which presents some challenges.

Eric,
The treadwear is 40 vs. 100 for the RA1s. When you say that the tires are 2-3 seconds faster than the RA1s, one can only surmise that the longevity is going to be cut in half -- not exactly a good thing for spec classes that are trying to keep the tire costs down.
Have you heard of anyone using them on multiple track weekends? Will they wear all the way down to the cords or will they heat cycle out prematurely? Inquiring minds want to know.

Remember that treadwear ratings are relative to OTHER TIRES FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER ONLY. So it gives you a relative wear rating against other Toyo tires...but is not valid for comparing Toyos to Michelins, BFG, etc.
