Default Fire in Thunder Valley at Mid Ohio

http://youtu.be/7Qxno1axFx4

There was an accident in which the fuel tank was ruptured and I drove thru it resulting in igniting a fireball that then went to the two cars in the accident. Both drivers got out OK. The 1st driver got out in about 10 seconds but the 2nd driver couldn't get out as he had buckled his seat belt backwards. The 1st driver ended up going back to help the second driver get out of the car! My lesson here is to practice getting out of the car in 10 seconds or less!!!

Wow. Glad everyone was OK. This incident will make me think twice about driving through fluid on the track when passing through a crash scene. Like you mentioned in your youtube comments, its hard to know if its radiator fluid, fuel or oil. Must have been quite a wake-up call seeing a fire ball erupt around and behind you.

Were you able to follow-up with the drivers after the crash to find out how well their cars survived the fire? And, did the fire cause much damage to the track?

The cars were in the makesihift boneyard. The back of the 944 is destroyed by both the crash and the fire. The BMW is pretty twished and is being stripped with parts going to a new car.

No damage to the track from what I can see.

Are we seeing the first driver in the video before he went back or the second driver escaping?

That was the first driver. He got out in about 10 sec and sprained his ankle in doing so. He then heard the other driver yelling that he couldn't get out and went back and got him out. The fire stayed in the back of the 2nd car (the 944) and never got to the passenger area. The 2nd driver was treated and released with some smoke inhalation.

The "other drover" Jim Pantas is a true hero. He might not think or say so, but he is. Kudos.

I heard about 60 seconds BUT they were hampered by drivers not getting stopped for the red flag. Lots of lessons here!

Mad props to him for going back. That must have been seriously scary for both drivers.
