Default Thinking of upgrading your AIM Data system?

Hi Guys/Gals

I thought I'd make an offer to those of you who currently use AIM data equipment. If you want to upgrade I'll offer to take your existing equipment in trade toward whatever AIM product you want. E-mail me and describe what you have now, what car you are installing it in and what you want. I'll even take your GPS 05 module in trade toward a Smarty Cam. I'll email you a quote. Only for US shipping address though! My e-mail address is jandsaustin1 at verizon.net

Jerry, is the blue backlighting considered an upgrade? We have an MXL Pista installed in our '01 Cup, but can never get the blue backlighting. Don't know the age of the dash, but I suspect it's an older unit. We're current on firmware, but can't ever seem to get a backlight. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

Toby, how you tell if the unit is older (pre-2006) is by the size of the download cable plug into the left lower side of the unit. If 1/8" (iPod earphone size), post 2006 and later, if smaller (3/16"), it's an early model which I do not believe offers the blue backlight. You can scroll through the lefthand button to see the F/W version and the Serial number, which is what Jerry will need to answer your question.

Hi Jerry
Funny you should ask.
I might want to add a throttle position and brake sensor to my MXL Pista system (on the 1995 993).
Is this pretty easy to install?

smsarchitects: I am with you on multiple cameras, I've suggested that to Italy but no response

tasracer: Send me an e-mail with more specifics

Rick: I'd recommend installing an additional accelerometer, mounted longitudinally. I've started doing that (Peter clued me in on this) on some cars to avoid messing with the brake lines. You can get good braking profile, however, not a good throttle trace. I have a couple options for you on throttle. Send me an e-mail

@Peter. Thanks Peter. I must have a newer unit as the download cable is the iPod-sized variety. I have the serial number handy as I have a copy of the config on my computer. I'll give Jerry a call. Thanks!

Rick, if you're handy, and a cheapskate, you can do a throttle position sensor like this with a run-of-the-mill potentiometer, some hardware and an Aim extension cable (to solder to the pot).

Hi Van
Thanks for this, and the good, clear photo
Cheapskate? yes
Handy? only sometimes
