Four hospitalized, 3 released. The straggler has "non-serious" injuries.

Yeah and last weekend a DP cars wing hit a wheel being carried by another pit crew and sent it flying, knocking the guy back....

this was a really sad accident in one of the most exciting series to watch and run in. It gets the attention of the manufacturers CEOs that's for sure

Pit stops in all forms of Motor racing are a dangerous thing, the proof is in the video!! Back in 2008 at the Watkins Glen 6hr we were doing a stop, i pulled the wand out and tossed it back out of the way, when it hit the ground it opened somehow, now we had a 30ft air hose with a wand pushing out 4/500PSI out of it flying around, it caught me in the cheek bone, just slightly and hit another crew member in the head, resulting in a nice gash and a few stitches .Could have been far worse, a few inches in another direction and i would have lost my teeth!!

Helmets would have prevented this.

Why dont you and TRG be proactive and be the first to start wearing helmets over the wall. Why do you have to wait for someone to mandate it?

Did they red flag the race for that? I see the cars coming into the pits/garages at the end. If so, it seems odd given that that's where the accident is.

You would do a good thing and I'd think your sponsors wouldn't mind the extra attention (that no doubt the 1st team that does this, gets) either.
