Back straight is definitely a safer place to start the races.

Doug glad you made it through unscathed.

I've started many NASA races on the backstretch, and I strongly agree with John. I'd like to see PCA make this change.

The Jagermeister Cayman swapped ends after the crest of thunder valley and ended up in the tire barrier late in the race. I was watching from the infield (I was running the DE portion of the weekend). It was really sad to see such nice and rare cars in pieces, but glad to hear all the drivers walked away.

Yep thats what my buddy that was there said someone missed a shift on the start. Lucky for him he was in front of it. Sorry to hear about Kim not making it out, thats a crappy way to end the weekend.

hate when that happens. Took me so many races to get comfortable at starting after a really bad experience once.
Meanwhile, your car passes tech with no center net or halo seat?

This is PCA and not NASA

Not required by the rules.

I am planning on installing a center net though.

Thanks- she struggled with some minor issues all weekend and never quite got up to speed.
Her car should be ready for Rd America, although won't win

FWIW, most SCCA club races DO start on the pit straight.

Not sayin' it's better, just pointing it it's quite normal too...

I'm not trying to argumentative, but this was not the case at any SCCA Runoffs that I attended from 2000-2005.

Perhaps they alter the procedure for other smaller SCCA races with fewer cars in each group ,but it still is IMHO less than ideal.

Having all the cars in a straight line, all able to see the green flag and more room to bail out if something goes wrong just seems to make more sense to me....also sets up some great opportunities to out brake and pass your oponents going into the first turn.

...and the Runoffs are hardly a typical SCCA race. I've been there countless times, and have never taken the green on the back straight - though I have seen it done, while there crewing or working.

Just pointing out that it's by no means the no-brainer that everyone here is making it out to be.

I would imagine worker turnout is one of the major factors in why it may not always be used.

Front and rear bumper damage mostly. Some along the driver's side. Largely cosmetic.
