I'll be there along with a great group of folks from NCR.

My opinion on the insurance - if you want it - go for it from day one. If you can afford it and don't want the financial risk of losing your car, then don't listen to anyone and buy it for the peace of mind.

Been there done that!

That's why I purchase the insurance for every track day, it runs about $200 for 40K of agreed value, the peace of mind is worth it to me.

You can do everything right and still end up with a damaged car.

If you are talking about NHMS on Aug. 6-7, I will be there, too. If you are lucky you might find a regular insurance company (the one that insures you on the street) to cover you on the track as well. My insurance company (MetLife) does but it is a MA policy and it might be different in other states. They confirmed the track coverage in writing.

They have been great and the rates are good. They don't cover Time Trials so if you do an event like NARRA, make sure you don't get signed up for that - just the USPDE portion.

Jake, I just got off the phone with my insurance carrier (USAA) and they will cover it since its not a race. Thanks for your response, never thought they would cover so I didn't bother checking.

When I sign up for auto cross I will be calling Katz. I spoke with someone there earlier and they were very helpful.

Thanks all for your thoughts and experience!

I've heard of USAA denying claims for incidents at DE's. I recommend you get them to give you something in writing; don't rely on a phone call.

Uhhhh, not so sure about that. I was at a POC event where SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY is stressed. Some guy there, first track event ever, watched his car leave on a flat bed.

Agent's assurance is worthless. Car insurance co's are a-holes (I work in the industry). If you feel the need for coverage, purchase track isnurance and follow their rules.

The agents word is not binding. Even if you do not have an exclusion the company can fight the claim. If you want to be sure you have coverage, purchase the track policy.

I thought if you had proof the agent said something (like in writing), even if they were wrong their errors and omissions would cover it?

Matt, to that I'd say: Enjoy the law suit. Maybe you win. Maybe you get summary judgement against you because the judge is a moron. (Promise you I have first hand experience).
To the OP: Buy track insurance if you want track coverage.

I'd love to trust my insurance company, but they are an insurance company. Insurance will be cheap peace of mind.
