Default 986 Coolshirts

Has anyone else had delivery problems with these folks; in particular with the shirts FR or normal ones?

Yes, the Shirts from 986 are on back order, mine is suppose to arrive near the end of June, I was told this after I order the system.
I called SpeedMerchants and they had some in stock, it was delivered to me the day after I placed my phone order. I didn't want to wait for the back order so now I have two shirts, pricey system compared to cool shirt IMHO.

Still no Nomex or CarbonX versions available yet, correct?

I've thought the 986 shirt would be superior to Cool Shirt because it has a greaer area of cold water in contact with the torso, but they also claim superiority becase: •One large chamber contains the cooling coils that are packed in ice •The other (smaller) chamber is the water reservoir •Water is cooled as it passes through the aluminum cooling tubes.

Why is that an advantage? It seems that it just add another layer of heat exchange to the system that would reduce efficiency.

The best setup is supposed to be a Cool Shirt cooler hooked up to a 986 shirt....

I replaced the pump of my FAST cool system with one that pumps twice as much and also got rid of the intermittent switch so it pumps constantly. It keeps me plenty cool (was ok, now is great). I use that standard shirt in carbonX or cotton.

It makes the ice last longer... at the expense of reduced cooling.

Great system, but the shirt will melt in a fire...not optimal.

I wear it under a 4-layer Nomex suit... shouldn't be a problem.

Nearly certain Performance SpeedTech located at MSR has them in stock:

Had this discussion with Pat Long at an event. He was pretty adamant that you should never wear anything under your suit except Nomex.

No advantage there! Just a patented sales point. The shirt does look nice, though.

That raises a question - what about the rubber tubing that's part of the shirt (NOMEX or otherwise). Wouldn't that melting cause some serious issues as well?

Just recieved a reply. The shirts are now delayed until July/August.

FWIW, I'm impresed with the system (despite the fact that I've had to use a FAST shirt with it). The unit is solid and the variable speed control precise and very easy to adjust from cool to really cool.

That's where a good FR shirt comes in...should offer some protection from the tubing as long as the tubing is on top of it. Also, the tubing does have cool water in it which will delay melting as well. BTW, none of this stuff is fire PROOF, just fire retardant that will allow time to get out of the flame unhurt. Even nomex will burn. The big difference is that FR materials shouldn't catch fire and keep burning, like cotton. They will also be more resistant to flame and heat. With that said, I would much rather wear cotton as an under layer than something that would melt to my body like underarmour.
