Just wondering if anyone has run Michelins on a front engineed water pumper? From what you read the ones that the Cups use run a different compound front to rear and they don't recommend using the softer compound on the rear. Makes sense, but wonder how they'd go on a 50/50 chassis? Or any other brands apart from Hoosier. Not that I have anything bad to say about the R80s but just gathering information for the future.

There are a number of quality slicks out there including Hoosier and Yokohama. Both are excellent. On another subject Patrick, how is the car coming back together?

They start back on it next week Jim. Been a long 5+ weeks just waiting for that. Really want to work out what happened and how to prevent it again. Not a nice feeling. My question re this thread was more preliminary research. Not sure if it's anecdotal but the Michelins seem to enjoy a rep for being the best. There doesn't seem to be much info out there of higher powered 944s running on slicks other than Hoosiers.

btw I'm following your car via the threads. Shoot some video and post it soon. Sounds like some great initial feedback so far.

In my shop now working on a few details. A final test weekend scheduled for 14th and it's off to the races. I will get some video from the test weekend. I love the Aim Dash, it's not a Motec but a it is a great piece of equipment paired with the smarty cam.

Godspeed on that reassembly. Consider engaging Dave Scott-Velociraptor "ask the coach" about your accident. Get yourself some answers that you can feel are concrete about what went wrong. Just my opinion.

What tyres are you running and on what size wheels?

Funny you should mention Dave. Believe it or not, I had a days driving with him back in '09 at the Autobahn circuit. As to the cause, I hope this will reveal itself during the repairs. Engineer thinks it's lack of droop in the rear shocks. We shall see....
Hey Jim, come to think of it, you're running Motons aren't you? If you happen to have the car on the hoist can you measure the rear shock bodies for me. Just curious what size people have and if that might be a pointer to my issue.

How much droop do you have and how much roll do you have? I seem to remember that you had pretty stiff springs on the car...stiff enough at the rear to handle a fairly large wing. I can't image you had all that much roll.

Don't have those measurements to hand yet. Car will get disassembled for repairs starting next week. Suspension measurements will get done over the next 1-2 weeks. Not a lot of roll but we had taken the rear sway bar off after an earlier session. Apparently the rear was rolling more than the front after this. 900/1100 springs.

Shock diameter is 53mm.

I run a square set up with 285/30/18 on 10 1/2 inch wheels.

Thanks Jim. What I'm hoping to gather is the shock travel so if you could measure the actual shock body if at all possible I'd be indebted. No hassle if you can't. Thanks anyway.

I will do that when it comes off the trailer. Off to the dyno tomorrow so she's on the trailer.
