New rotors.
Used Pagid Yellows.
993 coupe.
Watkins Glen
2 days, admittedly 1 was a lapping day so more and longer sessions than usual.
Saw these the morning of day 3, so just 2 days on them. TechArt AND AJUSA cooling ducts.

Maybe being lazy and trailing the brake instead of a cleaner on/off?

That does not look too bad for two track days and is typical of crossed-drilled rotors. IMO, nothing to worry about until you start connecting holes or get close to the edge. I use stock rotors and I get about 6-8 track days before the cracks get bad enough that I replace them. From what I have read on this forum that is pretty typical - some more, some less.

Age/condition of calipers? Perhaps they aren't releasing properly. Temp paint on the rotors will tell you how hot they're getting.

Condition of pads? In my experience (using different rotors so not a direct comparison), the yellows crack and start to flake when significantly over heated.

I used to get a lot more. Of course, that was before Red group I was hoping for a significant difference/savings with the money spent on the cooling...

How did you bed the Pagids to the new rotors?

What were ambient temperatures?

It's possible that you are getting too much cooling air to the brakes, and they are suffering thermal shock every time you go into T1 and the Bus stop.

Also, ditch the perforated rotors for serious Red group track work, IMO.

I did two laps, then came in for an hour or so.

60-80 F

Would love to, but not up for Big Red $ at the moment and can't find anyone who makes slotted 993 non-Turbo brakes.

The recent cross drilled rotors are all junk. I did the same on my 964 with a crack all the way to the outside which rendered them garbage.

Try and find some non cross drilled rotors for your car. After much searching I figured out 928GTS rotors fit on the front of my 964( I have RS brakes) and all has been well since.

BTW, you aren't doing anything wrong...

Cheers, James

Clear is flaked off and in need of recoat, but paint fine.

I guess I'll see when I pull them off. So if overheated, I must be sort of inefficient in my braking then...

Contact Troy at Coleman Racing ... Just had some floating rotors made (slotted) and after 5 days at Sebring they show no wear at all. PFC97's lasted 5 days and they still have a day or two left.

I had the same problem as you with drilled rotors, throw them out and don't look back.

They don't seem to exist commercially.

Those look a heck of a lot better than my rotors (I had the same reaction as John). I use Pagid Blacks which have plenty of stopping power and are relatively rotor-friendly.
I did 2 days at Cups and they were/are fine.

i have found that I used to crack rotors but as I have progressed as a driver I actually brake a lot less and use much less brake. I also use CL pads and while as good other pads I have used they are very easy on rotors. I was using PFC's and replacing rotors to pads at 1:1.

drilled are crap. My last set of factory cross drilled didn't last a whole season and I don't get to that many races and the car is pretty light.

I just got some powerslot cryo something or others. Only had them a weekend so far but I will be interested to see how long they last.
