Default Tongue weight for Trailex 8045

Hey guys,

I purchased a Trailex 8045 trailer recently and i have a question regarding the proper tongue weight.
Tow vehicle is an F150 and the car is an 89 911 ...
I already picked up some extra "D" rings as the rear ones are too far back for my 8 ft straps and my car will definitely have to sit closer to the front of the trailer.

What is the safe recommended tongue weight for my application ?

Cheers !
Phil

Aim for 10-15% of total weight. Details here (and the scale they sell is very good too).

While the 10% tongue weight is indeed the recognized, tried and true standard I think you can have much less. Whoever I spoke to at Trailex when I ordered mine said theirs will do fine with much less. 200lbs was the number he gave me. I run 250lbs tongue weight when tires and everything are loaded. Seems to work fine.
Not to state the obvious but have you had your axles positioned for a car with the engine in the wrong place?
I would encourage you to buy or borrow a tongue weight jack to know for sure what you got.
Cheers

The PO was hauling a GT3 which is heavier than my 911.I will be bringing extra track wheels and a floor jack with axle stands in the cargo box which is in the front of the trailer...

I have 185 lbs tongue weight on my boat trailer on which i relocated the axles to achieve the proper weight,i guess it should be similar or a little more with my Trailex ?

Cheers !

8-12%

Whether or not you have tires in your tire rack will affect this equation.

I've always read 10% to 15% of total trailer and car weight. My got me the scale after an exciting downhill run to Mid Ohio (to little t-weight). I also have an F-150, Trailex an '84 Carrera or 964.

I've got the same trailer with a tire rack, winch, and tool box, and I haul a 996 GT3. I borrowed a scale last year and measure the tongue weight with the trailer fully loaded, and it was about 430 lbs. That's in the 10% - 15% range, so I didn't change anything. Traler pulls great with a Ram 1500. YMMV.
