Default Great quote from Patrick Long

Automobile Magazine (Apr. 2012):

"The day that racing doesn't pay the bills anymore, I'll still be racing. It's what makes me the happiest. It's not aways about champagne and money. It's about getting behind the wheel. It's that feeling of sitting on a tire on a brisk, cold morning, talking about racing with the guys at the track. That's what I've always done, and that's what I'll always do. I'll make my money in racing, and I'll probably spend every bit of it in racing."

And if you've ever met him or worked with him, you know he means every word.

While being President of PCA doesn't pay any bills, I do get to experience a few things that otherwise I would not. I one of the coolest memories was when I was invited to Porsche hospitality after the Petit Le Mans. The place was pretty much empty, food gone, bar still open, but they were waiting for the factory drivers to stop in. The drivers came in, starving and thirsty. The catering crew scrambled to find some left over sandwiches that the sponsors and their families had not eaten. The bartender made sure everyone had a beer. Patrick Long spotted the XBOX360 simulators and immediately jumped in and the several other of the younger drivers circled the simulators. Much like on track racing, they were offering hints, criticisms, as well as cheering each other on. That blew me away. Here were these guys who just spend over 10 hours racing, tired and exhausted, yet were still attracted to anything that offered competition. The head of Porsche Motorsports worldwide was watching the whole thing with some amusement and satisfaction.

btw, Patrick is as good on a sim as he is on the track. Same goes for the other drivers.

Very cool story. Nice to see this kind of "purity" with pro drivers

Having spent many hours with Patrick including getting pulled over by the police in Germany I can tell you he's the real deal.

Cool story, but not surprising!
