I was impressed by how little her head and body moved from such a violent impact. Nice safety gear.
probably because she hit sideways. that containment seat did it all. (along with the belts) . the impact was all to the side, but the forces to the neck can be the same. nice to see the hans and the seat (mostly seat) kept her head from leaving her body)

She's got the pole position for the Nationwide race.

The 'poured' seats are made out of stuff the same as or similar to what is in your helmets. They are designed to help deal with those sudden decelerations and minimize the 'third' impact.

I was expecting a rattled if not injured driver, but she took it like it was just another day at the office. I'm impressed.

Default Another big one.

NASCAR drivers have now gone headfirst into the inside retaining wall at Daytona International Speedway on consecutive days.

Fortunately, thanks entirely to the innovative SAFER barrier, both Danica Patrick on Thursday and Miguel Paludo in tonight's Camping World Truck Series race walked away unhurt.

Paludo was running third late in Friday's Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway when he got shuffled out of the pack and took a vicious lick into the inside wall near the entrance to pit road.

The wreck was very similar to Patrick's crash during the Gatorade Duel on Thursday, but at a different location on the track.

Clearly, the SAFER barrier continues to save lives in NASCAR and all of motorsports. Can you imagine where racing would be today without it? Though the HANS device and enhanced cockpits also deserve credit, the soft walls are perhaps the most important safety innovation in racing history.

Here's a video of Paludo's wreck:

That's what Bill Scott taught in the '70s cuz the old Formula cars were so tight especially if you were a fat boy like I was back then. (5'11'' x 200 lbs)

Quite a few big advances in safety equipment to witness in action there. An enormous wreck with little after effect. Fantastic.

And what do you do with your feet in that situation?

It's more what you don't do and that's stay hard on the pedals at the point of impact. I think just pulling up a little would suffice...

Incredible poise combined with state of the art safety equipment yielded a safe outcome.
