Say it IS faster. That what you'd want as your track car? How about a nice analogy--if the least attractive can give you the ____ of your life, are you still interested?

I've seen a Pano Turbo keep up with a Boxster Spyder on the infield course at CalSpeedway -- both were on street tires --- both driven by Porsche Barber Instructors. An impressive car indeed, but the comparision needs to be made the same day, not years apart.

Wonder how the Pano would hold up after 10-15 laps?

No arguing that the Panamera Turbo is fast. Faster on a track than a GT3, uh, no.

Seems clear, unless you're piloting an RS the Panamera Turbo S is Porsche's best track weapon.

Bob? You there Bob?

Did Bob's head explode?

Is that Bob outside my house right now?

I take it back!

It sounds like we need to get Walter to drive these cars on the Nurburgring....wait, he already has:

38. Porsche 911 GT3 7:40.00 161 '09 435 / 1376 Walter Rohrl

76. Porsche Panamera Turbo 7:56.00 156 '09 500 / 1870 Walter Rohrl

78. Porsche 911 GT3 7:56.33 156 '99 360 / 1350 Walter Rohrl

So, it is not as fast as an '09 GT3 but it is about as fast as a '99 GT3.

Impressive. Very impressive.

Similarly,....a few years ago at PSDS (i.e. Barber) the instructors stated that the Cayenne Turbo could keep pace with a base Carrera but that after a few laps the brakes would start to fade on the pig.

This is true. Both Brian and Cass have said that.

BACK IN 2007, they used journalists (the guys who wrote the articles) to drive the cars on the lightning lap, so the times were pretty lame, since then, they have upgraded to at least quality amateur, semi pro drivers for the lightning lap comparos.

So not really an exact comparison.

'ring conditions change hour by hour if not minute by minute. unless they were driven on the same day back to back by the same driver or driver's of similar skills, it's not even worth reading.

Dude, don't ever underestimate the sheer... speed... of... FUGLY!

Cass was hot lapping the Cayman R at Road Atlanta as part of the Porsche Experience (or whatever they called it) and said he had to drive around the brake fade after multiple hot laps.

I can't imagine what the Panaboat does to the brakes.

I wonder what Ring time the Panamera Turbo GT3RSR KERS will post...

Pete,

Yeah, we should throw away all track records for the same reason....

You did see that all three times were set by Walter Rohrl, right?

Come on, the point is that the damn thing is fast for a 4 door...no matter how fugly it is. Nobody is saying it is better than a GT3 as a track car.....

Scott

Until someone on this forum (presumably someone moderately quick) goes out and buys a Panamera Turbo (S) and pounds around a few tracks for a few weekends, and runs with GT3's with various pilot skill, and lays down a bunch of laptimes, this is all useless.

I've seen the same GT3 (mine) run 4-5s a lap faster on a track just by virtue of track evolution over the course of 3 hours. Like, seriously, hammer around for an hour, set a 2:30 (for example) as best time. Park, have a coffee, smoke a few cigarettes, have another coffee, ponder the guys who showed up with their hot girlfriends but who seem content with 5-6 laps of cruising and calling it "track time".... then you take the car out again and BOOM, your first flying lap is already 2s faster than the quickest thing you did 2 hours earlier.
