Default ALMS to VIR, Sep 13-15 and Group to lead F1 near NYC named

Great news this morning!

First, VIR will host a traditional ALMS weekend September 13-15! MAJOR props to Kerrigan Smith and his team for pulling this off!

IF IMSA GT3 cup drivers want to begin preparations to know this place better than the other guys, I've got several programs that will do just that!

Story here: http://www.racintoday.com/archives/32437

Second, and this is big! Tom Cotter will head Leo Hindery's group putting on the US F1 GP across the river from NYC. Story here:http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97062

The stock just went up on this event!

Holy cow! So cool on both topics!

And, like Peter, I am happy to help at VIR. I spent a full week there this past July coaching, and may likely do it again this year. Peter, I am happy to team with you (and vice versa) if demand exceeds supply!

If things continue as they have, that's a certainty!

And vice versa, actually. Wow. Time away from family is becoming a challenge. I guess we are very blessed!

I've always wanted to see ALMS at VIR! so that's great news might need to plan a trip to your neck of the woods for that one, especially if Petit isn't going to be part of the WEC.

as for the NY USGP, Tom Cotter is a big addition to their team but I'd still bet against it. I still think it's a way to put pressure on the Austin crew.

Kerrigan... can you confirm that ALMS is really going to run the "grand" course @ VIR?

There is a PCA Potomac Chapter DE at VIR on August 31 thru September 2. Don't know which course they run but it can't hurt.

Yes, they are running the West Grand Course. See map.

Clearly this one is one to put on the list of the 4-5 IMSA races I will plan for 2012!

what else is on your list?

I went to Long Beach and Petit in 2011, almost went to Laguna but it fell apart at the last minute

ALMS was the highlight of the weekend for me at Long Beach, much more interesting than the Indycars.

You have made my DAY!

I've taken my son to the Rolex Grand Am events at VIR these past couple of years and I've been hoping that one day they would step up and host ALMS.

We watched all the races last year on espn3.com and even took the plunge and went to Road Atlanta for Petit. Had a blast Porsche car camping all weekend (my 964 in the middle of the pic. below)

My son (8) will be so, so happy! We live in the Triangle. See you there!

who needs a pickup or SUV for camping when you have a 911?

It would have been smarter to take my other car...but there were too many curvy roads on the trip, so I had to take the Porsche!

I live 50 miles from VIR...so now I have to decide whether to camp again (love visiting the paddock late at night...and seeing the track first thing in the morning!) or drive back and forth? Tough choices...

Front row action that ALMS provides...
