Default Help with heater core delete on 944 turbo.

So the kneebar on the rollcage makes it impossibru to keep my heater core box.

Have any of you deleted it and run a pipe straight from the coolant rail by the exhaust to the pickup on the head?

The only thing I have in the shop to use is copper plumbing pipe but I don't think that will work for several reasons, one of which is the lack of a lip to keep the coolant from leaking past the hose clamps.

Anybody done this before?

Thanks in advance!
Rich

Why would you want to keep the coolant rail? Lindsey makes a flange that you can blank off your block with, and you can tap your water pump and use a plug (3/8" if I remember correctly). Pretty simple. I used the rubber elbow with a bolt and clamp to blank off the pump until I got around tapping the water pump. There is no engine cooling reason to try and do dhat you want to do.

There was discussion on this last week in the 944 Turbo section.

I plugged mine on both ends. For the the head I made up a custom block off plate and for the water pump side I make hose cap and plug it. The system works the same as if the heater valve is closed (ie no flow) Been fine for 10+ years like this.

I'm looking to do the same, I was just thinking of finding some caps to put on both connections. But I will go look at that block off plate.

You can hose cap and plug the head elbow as well. I ran three seasons that way and finally made a block off plate this year.

Delete the core, block off the head.
You'll be glad you don't have that infernal head elbow & valve to deal with then doing head work too!!

Perfect guys, thanks.

I thought that even with the heater valve shut, there is still some flow, and ergo I thought there needs to be some circulation to the elbow on the head.. But I suppose if yous guys have been running with it blocked off, than so can I!! Love to keep it simple!

Not only is there flow in there, but it is a plastic piece that can (and WILL) blow at the most inconvenient time! The coolant then tends to flow through the inspection hole and into the clutch....
You are making a good decision to get rid of it.
