Default PBOC Sebring '12- started badly but ended well

Last year I watched the 6 hr race while my car sat ice-locked in Atlanta, during the week long ice-ice ( it did make it down the next day after the nite race in time for the enduro and sprints).

This year, no ice so the car was there but . . . during nite practice on the second lap I flat-spotted a front tire (new rotors/pads) in the hotel hairpin and by T16 the tire delammed and threw the steel belts mashing the rad, plumbing and fender. Oh and it popped the headlight completely out. And lost the gas cap. Bugger.

Missing the Thurs nite race the task was then to try and ready the car for the Fri enduro and w/e sprints.

But no rads at Champion or Ocala P-car dealer (really??) so had to have one sent from up North. We did find one used spare in the pits and reshaped the mangled bracket. But still needed hoses and to repaired the bodywork- enough to pass tech.

Well, Ace is indeed the place:

The finished product passed tech and yielded 3 x 2nds in class.plus a personal best time about -2.5 secs from last year (car is lighter now but circa 180 lbs).

Many thanks to Todd and Blair who managed to pull it off and salvaged the w/e.

p.s. even found the gas cap on Sunday without a mark on it.

Awesome repair job! Glad it didn't let go in BB or hold on until the back stretch.

No kidding. I got to T16 and it went. Just going down the back straight slowly to the pits did the damage. Steel belts vs. rad = no contest.

Btw- the tire had two HCs on it.

Hoosier seems to be placing blaming recent failures on low initial tire pressures. If you don't mind sharing, what were your cold pressures?

I'll have to check but it was prob drover error as we had new pads and rotors and I locked it up badly
It was also dark and cool with a light rain so I doubt the pressures were very low. In fact prob pretty high.
