Default It still haunts my dreams!

More than 6 months ago I rode in this little beastie. I still REALLY want one. I wish I were in a position to pony up about 100 Gs for one powered by a 4 liter Mezger...

Probably because the 550 uses a Volkswagen Typ 1.

Drivetrain costs are higher. Be thinking about the cost of a nicely rebuilt re-geared 915 with custom reversed ring and pinion gear, 993 engine, ecu and plumbing. That alone probably exceeds the cost of a 550 replica. Then add real doors, windows and windshield maybe molds for windshields and things go up fast.

I remember spending way too much time looking at the rolling chassis he had at an angle on the back of a pickup truck at Rennsport 3. It is still a car that stirs my emotions.

I know I'm sick but I thought how great the 904 replica would be with a 350 hp Subaru STi motor. Hey its just a replica OK?

I saw him and the test car at Willow Springs when he was still working the bugs out. Not cheap, but it's also a lot of car for the money.

Same price as a new Boxster? Yeah, I'd rather have the 904...

The Beck 904 is cool, but not exactly original in terms of the body styling. It works better and has more room though. I saw them down in Daytona at RRIII a few years back.

There is a fellow who lives about 3 miles from me that built his own with a tube chassis and made molds from an original body. But not original in details, has big brembo MS brakes and centelock wheels

Cheers

Something doesn't look quite right with that car...although it still looks great and I'm sure it drives fantastically.

Here's Walter and the real thing. Amazing.

The Beck 904 is slightly wider and slightly longer if I recall from what Chuck's told me, because in reality, very few of us would fit or be comfortable in a real 904. His are much more real world user friendly.

He makes a street version (carpeting, leather seats, nice dash) and a track version (roll cage, lighter, fairly bare inside). I've been on the track with Chuck in his 904 and me in my race car...and he was MUCH faster around the track than me and everyone else out there.

Here's a link to a great interview with Chuck. If you've ever talked to him, this is EXACTLY him, blunt, to the point, no sugar coating his answers. I love just talking to him...he knows so much. Go to his shop and see some of his 'Projects'. Oh the stories.. http://www.kitspeed.com/2011/10/12/c...erview-part-1/

Here are a few pictures from when I was at his shop last year. I had some other very cool shots of his V12 Lister he built, but they were too blurry - camera phone was not working well in the lighting.
....And tell me what's strange about that engine???

I have seen one in person and it is a very well put together machine. Hopefully I'll get to drive one soon.
