Default First Trip to Willow Springs

I've never been to Willow Springs and I am curious where to park a coach and trailer the night before. I am traveling from a distance and want to get in the area the night before the event to be rested and at the front gate early.

I'm comfortable parking anywhere that's convenient for a 65' rig.

Thanks

IIRC, there are only a few RV hook ups at Willow Springs. Most is dry camping, you can park behind the garages or to the side of the garages (near turn 9) those are the areas best for 65' foot rig

Good to know Pete but is that area open access any time, ie the day or night before. Hook ups aren't necessary, I'm simply looking for a layover/parking spot. I'm assuming the track directs racers where to setup the morning of the event.

You can just park in line at the front gate the night you arrive if the gate is already locked.

Have fun. Welcome to "The fastest road in the west". I raced motorcycles out there for 20 years.

Lots of high speed chit there. You may need to wear a diaper your first few sessions to avoid making a mess in your car!

Good luck!

Yes at least in the daytime and into a good portion of the evening. Behind the garages is best for that size rig so you can spread out conveniently.

Just an FYI, the surface is new (appx. 3 months old) when Red Bull paid for the repaving to have Coultard show Tom Cruise around the track in last years RBR F1 car. It may not have cured completely and the weather this time of year is cold, windy, rainy, so tire grip will be at a premium

The gate closes around 9pm. If you don't make it in time just park on the road in front of the gate and camp till it opens up at 7am. There are some RV spots over by street but they aren't close to the track. You are better off parking behind the garages or next to them on the concrete pads, and running an extension cord so you don't have to use your generator all day.

Tim,

When you are heading up to Willow? Racing with POC?
If so, we are having a GMG Track Day that Thursday Dec 1st for our clients if you would like to shake your car down for the first time.

If it's for another event, park in front of the gate after hours and then near the turn 9 garages. If someone is there, there is still plenty of open parking when you get it.

Good luck at Willow.....a well prepped and fast car will average well over 100mph there!

It might just be the fastest (in terms of average speed) road course in the country.

Well, it depends on how fast the car is going.

My street-driven car is at an average speed of right around 100 mph in one lap (1:29 lap, 2.5 mile track).

And I'm something like 24 seconds off the lap record.

Here is a video of an IMSA GT3 with a lap of 1:25.XXX with MPH, RPM, gear selection shown, and James Sonfronas running a 1:20.XXX. Anything under 1:30.XXX your are in the "club".
