I am not familiar enough with them to know who would be tolerant of a newbie and be able to use Mid-Ohio. Suggestions?

Karen, virtually anybody here from your area - from pro coach ($) to Nat Cert PCA instructor (free with DE entry) can give you a real leg up as you start.

Every PCA certified instructor has had training which helps you get over the first events; in all honesty, its up to you to merely get started. It will all fall into place and by far the easiest thing to do would be to jump into the pool and get wet - the water is a lot more comfortable than you currently think it is.

You seem to have the passion...let's do something about it!

The local MORPCA region takes great pride in their instructor training, and the mid o school has some of the finest coaches in the country. Just dive in...you don't have to find an instructor; that's what the organizers proudly do.

Any of the local pca chapters should be very tolerant of newbies, heck, we love them! Getting new people to try, get hooked, and keep coming is what keeps all of our events going. Marc is 100% right, just find a pca event, we will be there to instruct you. And we look forward to seeing you.

Thanks guys for all the advice and KaiB I'll be PMing you as soon as I get my computer back When I have my son he is on it 24/7 - even plays World of Tanks with is Dad. I'm off to work, but really look forward to getting started. Was thinking about 'jumping in' after all the Christmas hoopla dies down!

The whole DE program is about "newbies".. The national instructor training program is geared to help newbies..

Thats what this is all about. And remember we were all newbies at one time.

Your instructor will help you, teach you and work to make this a fun and safe experience for you.

Mid Ohio is MORPCA's Home track, We will have our DE schedule posted shortly. We have a comprehensive program for beginners. we take extra care to give those drivers our better instructors and we hook you up with your instructor well before the event so that we can answer all your questions before you get to the track to avoid stressing about what you don't know.

I just read part of youur guide out of interest but I am confused.

In the "What are Run Groups?" section, it says:

You start in run group A, and move to a higher run group as your skill improves

But according to the list just above that, A Group is "Advanced drivers and Instructors"

Wouldn't somebody start in D Group and work their way up to A?

you can purchase your communicator and 2 headsets so the instructor can use one of the headsets. if you want to invest in some adapters, you can do that to accommodate different instructor helmet scenarios.

I can attest the track will fix that. If you've never been, you don't know what you are missing. I'll hear watercooler talk about going 100 on the freeway - pifft, how about going 60 MPH around a cul-de-sac ?

I'm a PCA National instructor way down south in Texas and I get a newbie every track weekend - I'm sure PCA up at Mid-Ohio will take care of you. From the instructor point of view, newbies are usually fun and newbies usually have fun. One of the reasons is the progress jumps are so large and frequent, slashing tens of seconds off laptimes. Once you do this for a while, you will be celebrating knocking off tenths of seconds off laptimes.

Come on in, the water is fine.
