Default Young American to test F1 car at Abu Dhabi

Rossi confirmed with Lotus for Young Driver test

4 November 2011

Alexander Rossi will be driving for Lotus at the post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix test session, the Norfolk-based team has confirmed. The official announcement comes alongside a confirmation that the American will also contest the first ever GP2 Finale for Tony Fernandes’ Team AirAsia.

“I am very excited to finally announce I will be competing in Abu Dhabi with Team AirAsia and will have the chance to put more F1 miles on my CV with Team Lotus,” says the 20-year-old Californian, who currently resides in Milton Keynes.

“For the F1 test I will be looking to learn as much as possible, do the best job I can and soak up every minute, in and out of the car.

“After the positive GP2 tests in Jerez and Barcelona, I feel we have a good chance of a strong result in the GP2 races and I will definitely be going into the weekend fully focused and motivated for a race win - looking at the team’s past results I see no reason why we can’t achieve that.”

Rossi IS the real deal. I think he is America's next best chance in F1. Quite a talent.

He is a great kid. I tuned in to every WSBR race this year to see him perform. Hoping for great things.

Ok, Rossi is good and an American but he finished 3rd in WSBR. The real deal is http://www.worldseriesbyrenault.fr/e...rtWickens.aspx

He is this years champion, a couple of years older than Rossi but has accomplished so much more.

Full disclosure.... I'm Canadian

Funny thing about motorsport. It's not always about your accomplishments. (it's who you know, not what you know.)

America is a big market with lots of impressionable potential marketing dollars.

Rossi had something like 4 DNFs. He didn't have the greatest season really and still managed 3rd overall. Also he beat Wickens the the flag more than once

Wickens had 5 race wins. Rossi had 2. Just saying the facts.

Ok it would be great for North America to have them both in F1.
