What a terrific talent he was. Very nice tribute by Indycar and the drivers.

This just sucks so much... I am really gutted.

Prayers for his two sons, wife and his friends and family. I really liked this guy.

Tragic. As much as the safety technology has come along, there are just some things we haven't, and my never be able to prevent. What a great guy, and with and infant son. RIP .

I was at the race today. I spoke with dan at the LB GP in April. He was a nice guy. I stood along the track with the crews today during the salute-very sad. Prayers go out to his family.

I'm incredibly sad. As a new father I cant look at this picture. This is the ugly side of our sport and it does not get any easier especially for the family left behind. RIP Dan.

I was barely able to sleep last night, and today is equally as hard on me. What a horrible dark cloud over my head today.

For many years I never cared much for a non-American driver winning the Indy 500, but for me he was the exception.
This past May I was delighted to see him win as an underdog.
His infectious smile and attitude will be missed.
I also couldn't sleep last night just thinking about that whole incident. I wish they'd stop this high stake, high speed drama on 1 1/2 mile ovals. Too fast and too many cars.
No matter what B. Barnhardt tried the stands were still only half full. He's treating this Indy thing like it was a carnival and it ain't.
Wasn't Travis Pastrana going to try this before he got injured. Are you kidding me.

RIP Dan Weldon.

Only in Indy Car is this year's winner not able to get a ride, but ends up last on grid on most dangerous track for Indy cars. Jimmy Johnson, who had horrific wreck the night before similar to Earhardt Sr., said that Indy cars should not be allowed to race on ovals, especially 1.5 mile banked ovals where the race cars never spread out much and no lifting is required. He said that Indy cars should only be allowed on street and road courses. He went on to say that he has been tempted to try his hand at Indy racing, but his lawyer, wife, and having children stopped him from trying.

I'm glad someone else saw it that way. He really had the wind knocked out of him. They showed how much the wall collapsed and rebound. It's sad that you have to find out the hard way what doesn't work in a race car/race track.

I watch Indy at Richmond in 2008. It was fun to see but disappointing in a way. There were so many wrecked cars, every 5 laps someone was taken out and many delays to clean up the bits. Hard to find that enjoyable to watch and they don't go to Richmond anymore any way...it was a pretty good crowd, IIRC. Indy doesn't go to the Glen anymore either....heard nobody went to see it.
