Great 996 GT3 Rally Video!!! Great Driver? Y/N?
I found this great 996 GT3 rally video on youtube and I am addicted to watching it, for the sound as well as the driving.
The driver certainly initiates large amounts of over steer in certain corners but is this really necessary and helpful? I am aware that conditions when rallying(tight corners, slippery unpaved road surfaces, narrow roads, etc.) make occasional over steer the fastest technique to navigate a corner.
My question is: Is the driver getting the most out of the car or simply hamming it up for the sake of a great video and the thrill of sliding the car around?

Race Car
Rally driving as apposed to track driving requires the driver to spend alot of time rotating the car around the very tight corners. To facilitate the rotation the hand brake is used extensively..
THis guy is super quick and one of the best there is rallying a RWD car.
this car's sound was also the inspiration for my car, I think it is one of the best sounding porsches out there....

Rally driving is automotive ballet when done properly. I didn't watch the whole video, but the first two minutes of it kind of looks like a blooper reel. Here's how it's done by a master:

I agree it can be dangerous. Me and the wife parked well off the rallye road at our campsite however the drivers got the turn wrong and all ended up going around our tent until I put my Range Rover to block the entrance and to redirect them. I thought the was race was over removed RR and yes heard them returning and rather then making the corner a few ended up rolling there cars into our campsite which I spent most of the night helping them put there cars tires down!!!

anytime you see him slide on pavement, as cool and need as it looks and sounds, it is SLOW! any guy that gives a wiggle around any normal turn (not the supertight 5mph turns shown), a car with control and the tires not wildly spinning will drive righty by! (i.e. Its much slower! )
however in the dirt, and rain, there can be debate on some types of turns.

Olaf Dobberkau and his co-driver/wife Alexandra König are pretty well known Porsche Rally drivers in Germany with a national title from I believe last year?
Since it's rally and not circuit racing, the amount of precision will not be the same.
