AG I`m not familiar enough to compare those 2 cameras, but you may want to take a close look at the Replay HD camera. Very small. Mounts almost anywhere. Good picture quality and I think they make a hard wire kit. Just a thought.
The Go Pro is definitely popular. Must be something people really like about it.

The Replay XD 1080P is a nice camera. Same price as the GoPro HD. I just tested one this weekend in the Summit Point club race. Recorded in 720P to get the most out of the 4GB card it comes with (it takes up to a 32GB card). It has multiple recording settings. With the included HDMI cable, you can plug it into your HDTV and watch your videos in the family room. Picture and audio were excellent.
Info on the camera can be found in the link below.

Sweet - thanks guys. I had not heard of this one. Good to hear it comes recommended from guys that use it. As my car is pretty much a stock 997S (no roll bar to connect to) does attaching it to a helmet work or is that a no no?

GoPro takes great video once set up properly. Its interface is clunky, but spend a few minutes with it and its actually simple.
Shot this mostly with a couple of GoPro's
This is Shot entirely with GoPro in bad outdoor light from a LeMons race.

I'm guessing the awd was disconnected?

You can attach the Replay 1080 to your helmet. They provide several mounts with the camera and I think one for the helmet is included. I want to try that once.

Speaking as an instructor, I would prefer that you not have a helmet cam. Technically, potential missiles are supposed to be restrained by a strap, but I have seen some helmet cam videos shot in environments much rougher than a DE (assuming you don't crash, that is).
I ask brand new students to turn off video; I might let them leave it on if they are more advanced.

I have the Contour GPS and it takes great video. A couple of friends have GoPro's and they take really good video as well. My only beef with both of these is there is no external mic input. If I were buying today, I would get a Replay XD 1080P - it has the mic input.

After seeing lots of video from lots of individual users, and after doing some serious testing of all three, we're ranking the Replay XD1080 just ahead of the Contour, and both of those well ahead of the GoPro.
I had been playing with the XD1080 before the SP club race and left it set for full 1080p at 30 fps. The video was rock solid with no sign of rolling shutter waviness! I still prefer 720p at 60fps, but it can certainly do full 1080 in a race car with 1000# springs and produce great video.
FWIW, last year's Contour model which is perfect for in-car applications is selling at killer prices. Its a great camera. I still prefer the Replay 1080, but those Contours are a killer deal right now.

I run Contour GPS (and a Contour HD) and love the viewfinder app they made for Android phones, take 15 seconds to line the camera up and see where it's pointing on your phone, it also allows you to change the video settings on the camera and see (somewhat since it's blurry) how it will come out and program memory settings on the go. The Contour HD is unbelievably cheap on Amazon ($127), for that price it's hard to beat, but no viewfinder (which is the only reason to get the GPS vs the HD.
