Default Mid Ohio Wreck & Restoration

About 6 weeks, racing NASA GTS3, I blew my second motor in as many years, again with a nice ball of fire. It happened between China Beach & Madness, spinning me in my own oil coming to a stop 10 feet off track pointing up hill on the right side of the track.

As I sat there, I watch several cars that were well behind me racing 2 wide over madness and right at me. The single corner worker was on the radio and not the flag. It was a little disconcerting seeing these guys going full chat coming right at me. Picture the view from that angle. After several cars had passed a 993 went wide (probably in my oil) and hammered me, his B pillar into my front left. As soon as I saw a reasonable gap in traffic I bolted for the hole in the fence.

Anyway, the wife said she was tired of me blowing up and catching on fire. I took that to mean that she wanted me to substitue my 951 turbo motor for an LS6.

The GTS3 scruts won't notice as long as you keep the hood closed. ;-)

Sudden transition from 3rd to 4th photo. No interim photos?

I have been running a pretty popular thread on the 951 forum that shows better progress photos. These were from the latest batch. I did a lot of "while you're in there stuff".

Removed all of the sound deadener on the front clip after I had the trumpets straightened out, sanded and painted the interior and cage after a full disassembly, removed all of the old harness etc. I have a few hours into it. Hope to be racing in two weeks and unfortunately miss Nationals.

There is a 951 with an LS transplant running in ST2 at the NASA Championships.

Well there were going to be two, I don't think Rene is going to make it either. I was signed up but bailed, hurricane held me up a week (dispatching crews).

Thanks for the compliment Raptor, it was great to meet you. I hope to make the rest of the season and continue in the South through December.

The rebuild looks really nice & clean. Bummer about missing Nationals, though! Good luck, and see you at the track!

Good thinking.....

I race with one here in So Cal that puts out about 400 rwhp. Real screamer and fun to listen to..... So asuming you're around 360, you would have to weigh over 3200 on R compounds to run ST2. What did the car weigh with the 951 motor?

I plan to run a conservative 320 to 340 horsepower with a strong torque curve allowed under the ST2 rules. Weight will be in the 2800 pound range. I will reduce my square setup 285/30's to 275 which allows me some additional pony's.

Good thinking. You should have a real Corvette killer with that setup. Adding a huge wing will help too....

Jim That's AWESOME!!!

I'm contemplating ST2 next year in this:

Just had it scaled at the cross corners are at 48.5% and the front to rear is about 48.2F/51.8R! I have an LS1 sitting in the shop and contemplating that as the little 383 stroker's replacement! Good luck with your build!
