how does everyone get their track wheels to the track?

I've towed a small Harbor Freight (build it yourself -- held 4 tires and a bin for stuff) behind my '84 911 and now a larger Trailex (holds 8 tires and 2 bins) behind my former GT3 and current Boxster S. I've towed the rig to tracks 8 hours from home. (I'll be going 4 hours to Watkins Glen this weekend.)
I don't have a tow vehicle or a trailer and wouldn't have a place for them. The trailer is small enough to fit in my garage.
For me, this is the way to go. Even if you could squeeze 4 tires into the car, where would you put your clothes etc and your tools?

Hey, that's my car in the mountain shot. I used a Thule rack and put together some uprights and cross pieces to hold it all together. Everything was from a hardware store, and this was back before I knew how to weld.
It works fine -- although I'll admit it looks goofy.

Jack, I'll say it again here. Yours is, in my mind, one of the most beautiful automobiles in the world.
It is the sole inspiration and model I use to continue barging on with mine. I thank you.

Have to admit i'm going to consider the same kind of setup
next season if i can't find a way to get my track wheels up to my events !
Cheers !

OP - Do you have a roll bar in your car? If not you should be able to take out the rear seats and get 3 in the back then one in the passenger seat, leaves room for tools, jack and a small cooler still in the trunk.
Did this in my old 996, and in my current GT3. GT3 even has euro fixed bucket seats in it and I can still get all 4 inside. Do yourself a favor though and put them in tire totes first and then cover the interior with a blanket first. Only one that doesn't really stay put is the one in the passenger seat. You have to keep an eye on that one.
It sucks, but it's a means to an end for now. I'll probably look into a trailor setup over the winter as I really need to get a roll bar in my car.

I tried driving with a wheel on the front passenger side a couple of times and it's not something I would recommend. Vision is impaired and it moves around even if I tried to tie it down with the seat belt. It would also be in the way when shifting.

This is the way to go. Harbor Freight sells them and they are inexpensive and you can bolt up a nice tool/bin box to it and strap down 4 wheels/tires. Get a small Hide-a-hitch for your car and done!

The HF trailer and removable hitch are definitely on my list. However, I can't swing the $500 right now before the next DE...I think I'm going to go 2 up, and 2 inside, with the trunk for all the ancillary crap for this one...

I use a Yakima rack. I used to put the rears on the rack laying flat, and the fronts in the back behind the seats. Now that I have a roll bar 3 go on the roof, and one goes in the passenger foot well, sort of. I have to get it in there just right so I can get 5th gear.
A tire trailer is on the list of winter projects.
