I have an 18V DeWalt rated at 300ft/lbs. It will barely remove a lugnut. I usually break the lugs free with a breaker bar, get the car in the air then zip off the lugnuts with the gun. I'm tempted to buy a new set of batteries before replacing it. One of my friends has the smaller gun, rated at 145ft/lbs and it has no trouble with lugnuts.

Uh oh !

I have had DeWalts since back when their 18V batteries were the best in the biz. After 5 years or so I just get new batteries. My newest ones are from 2010. My drills and even the 6 1/2 saw work well on the normal Ni batteries.

I hope the batteries improve yours. And if I get one I hope it works better than that.

I guess I will just stay with the old fashioned air for now.

Tried out the IR this weekend. It broke the nuts so effortlessly and works so smoothly that it isn't worth the effort to drag out the hoses for the air gun if you're just undoing some wheels. Plus it charges in less than an hour (don't know how much less) so there won't be any down time with 2 batteries.

Maybe I'll try it on the Cup Car wheel nuts.

You have seen the light! Besides not dragging hoses all over the shop and over the fenders another aspect of electric impact is the good ones have better variable power control than the air guns. You can hammer a lug nut off or gently set or remove a 10mm nut with the same tool.

Looks like the price for the IR on Tooltopia went up. I called to ask and they said they would check and get back to me. About $100 more now.

Mine arrived today with a beautiful set of IR impact sockets. I really like the quality of the IR impact sockets over the Sunex. Overall it is (was?) quite a deal.

Damn - pissed that I didn't pull the trigger on that this weekend. Let us know what they say. Maybe can do a quick group buy at the $285 price.

We're in the same boat. Appears that $285 was a "super blowout" and finished at some point over the Labor Day weekend. The person that I spoke with said to check the site in case its offered at that price again. I also received an e-mail from them, so maybe I'll send a note explaining that the Procrastinator's Tool Club would like to buy several and if they can do that price. I knew I should have bought it.

I guess now is not the time to mention how nice and sweet my IR impact gun works?

Any updates since 2011? In the market for a new impact wrench. All options above have sky-rocketed in price. I'd appreciate any leads on a decent deal.

I've been very happy with my Milwaukee 2662-20 18 Volt for the last two years.

Makita gets it done for me. I have the smaller one and the big one. Big one does not need a breaker bar before using. Plus for me is that I have a schitload of other Makita tools and loads of 18 volt LI batteries and chargers. Last weekend did 4 sets of four tires without a hiccup.

Cheap 18v ryobi will undo wheel nuts with ease. I use a torque wrench for final tightening and checking.
