Unless I am hanging out with friends I avoid the club stuff. There are plenty of open track days and private track days. Club days just don't work for testing which is my primary goal at the track.
If I am with a group, it does not matter where they place me, I simply tell them "I need to be in the fastest group so I can test my ultra fast sports car".

I do most of my track days with the PCA, but up here in the frozen tundra called Western Canada we don't use colored run groups. At the beginning of the season we will run aggressive and not so aggressive groups. But as the season progresses we just kind of mix things up. Most of the PCA people are the same people and we get to know who is fast and who isn't so fast and the not so fast people do a really good job of letting the faster people pass them. Also instructors are available to anyone who wants them and I tend to use them in the early part of the season. But most of us run solo (this allows the instructors to drive their own cars).
No I am not in any colored run group. I am just in the run group that chews through front brakes and tires faster than I would like. Damn I love tracks days, but I need to find a cheaper hobby. I wonder if I would find pleasure in watching paint dry?

This is not a forum where newbies are encouraged to chime in. When your first post is " should I switch to Hoosiers after 5 track days ?" the flaming starts very quickly.

Maybe, but that seems to depend on the posters attitude. The newbie who starts out with "I have worn out my street tires and need to replace them. I have 5 track days, what do you suggest?" gets a completely different response.

Not so, our region runs 5 groups and not by color, works very well.
Now I get it...lessee:
1) Tan
2) Khaki
3) Light brown
4) Ochre and...
5) Beige

FWIW, the color codes do serve a purpose. We fly a flag that shows what run group is out, put up a placard at grid-in that matches the color of the run group that should be gridding up, and place colored stickers on cars. Makes it easy for grid to make sure folks are in the right run group, easy for drivers to know when to grid up,...

It's just wrong to define a group of people by color, and there are twelve steps in the process of solving addiction...or was that causing addiction...I can't remember...

NASA uses numbers. 1 through 4 and NASA-Az gives out numbers for event. 3 digit with first being the DE run group. So see 145 on track and that is HPDE1. See 456 on track and that is HPDE 4.
You don't need colors to do the same thing.

I run in red/instructors. Even though I drive a slow car, I prefer to run in red as dropping to black makes me more nervous with late passing.
