Non-red fuel jugs and NJMP
#16
We should be thrilled they're even filling our normal red fuel jugs.
First of all the "Red" requirement is a Federal DOT law. Go down to Home Depot and you'll see red is for gasoline, yellow is kerosine and blue is diesel.
Want to get really depressed? Read this: http://blitzusa.com/faq.htm The fuel can you use at home is regulated by the EPA, CARB (California Air Resource Board) and the CPSC (Consumer Products Safety Commission).
Finally the fuel jugs we use at the track are NOT DOT legal fuel containers. My fuel jugs have two stickers on them:
++++++++++
MOTORSPORT HAZ-MAT RECYCLER
Holds 5 gallons of hazardous material. Use for storage and/or transport for recycling and proper disposal of common fluids used in motorsports as listed below: Antifreeze, brake fluid, engine oil, gear oil, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, paint thinners, solvents and hydraulic fluid. Help keep our environment clean and pollution free, always dispose of hazardous materials properly. Do not mix oil and water. Consult with your Haz-Mat collection center for which fluids can be combined.
+++++++++++
+++++++++++
Multi-use container. Not to be sold as a Portable Fuel Container.

Ditto the above. Thanks to the EPA and CARB life is miserable.
Try fueling up a thirsty tractor in the snow early one icy cold morning - with a legal fuel jug which won't pour fuel.
I break the law gladly....

I was just introduced to this Federal law recently. I tried to buy some jugs online that came in red, yellow, white and orange. I ordered orange thinking that it would be a unique and hard colour for someone to walk off with, but was informed that they were for export only (presumably to saner countries free of EPA nonsense).
Making small business enforce stupid Federal laws- smart.
