Default External trailer air and electric?

I'm sure someone has done this and I would appreciate any advise. I have a 24 ft. Featherlite and I would like to have a box inside the trailer with exterior lockable access for air and electric connections. Any pictures of this type of setup would be great.

Hey Bill,

Here's a forum board for all things trailers. You might find what you're looking for there. Those guys are into modifying their trailers for lots of things. I've found some good ideas and tips there.

One approach would be thru-hull fittings found at a boat supplier then cover with electrical spring flap cover. I did this for my air lines so I could keep my compressor inside and the side door shut, works well. Having the fittings outside the trailer could lead to maintenance and damage issues.

Christian, what kind of air line is that? It doesn't look like the typical air line fitting as used for tires, tools, etc. Ideally I would like it to be a lockable flush door with the fitting tucked inside a box/cabinet.

I will look at West Marine for the through hull fitting.

Bill:

Its just a thru hull fitting (boat part). My air line and compressor are inside, when I park and set up I simply push the hose with air chuck thru the hole and I am good to go. The image below is the air compressor inside a heavy guage box I had made. When the lid is closed it can be used as a bench or work surface. You can see the red air hose routing thru a fitting on right side of box. Same principal for thru-hull on side of trailer. Good luck with your efforts, many ways to achieve success.

Christian I have had the 'Aha' moment as I put your two pictures together along with your explanation. That looks like a great solution. I had always thought of a hard fixed mount for the female fitting. I like your idea.

Thanks,

Bill

There is an episode of Stacy David's Gearz on Speed that has lots of good info on adding accessories (including air and electric) to your trailer. You can view the full episode here.

I have a Wells Cargo 20' enclosed, set up like this:
External air coupling:

Compressor and lines:

Workbench and storage, plus roll-away compressor:

There's a winch mounted under the compressor, and we have a male-to-male extension cord that plugs into the trailer for either the compressor or pit electrical service.
