I ran 33/34 on my C2 with R888's. They really weren't that bad, but I was completely disappoitned that they heat cycled out at about 25 heat cycles and started to loose grip. They were still good down to the cords but not fast. That was the best part about RA-1's was they were quickest right before they corded. Heck I pulled a set with 2006 date stamps out of the basement and put them on my M3 last year and ran my personal best time in that car on RA-1's with them. They had been in my basement forever and have over close to 40 heat cycles in them.

That's about 10 HC's more than I can get out of R888's. They are great in the rain and in transitional conditions, which is why we use them in SP996 for rain tires. In the dry, they are just too expensive to use due to the HC issue.

Rather than run R888's as a standard tire, I'd get a set of narrower rims, and tires that fit them for the track, and save the big wide rims and tires for making the car look badass on the street.

i tried that for AX - to run 245/295 A6 tires on 8/10 rims - it absolutely sucked traction wise compared to 265/335 tires on 9/12 rims. and by 'traction' i mean G force measurement on smartycam before car was loosing grip and spinning out in a flat decreasing radius turn.

what i did not try yet is to stretch walls of narrow tires RSR style on a wide rim, like they run 310mm slick on a 13" rim or 270mm slick on a 12" rim. But i am not sure if even with my rebuilt suspension it will do much/any good as I still have stock 997 street uprights and overall arms geometry is quite different from one on a cup car.

BTW, after 5 events with my -3deg front -2.5deg rear camber RA1 tires are wearing out very equally and grip is quite good. After dealing with AX tires for a while it is amazing how slow those RA1 tires are wearing out. Rears had 5 or 6 events on them and from full tread they only lost about of 1.5-2 32th. Granted i am still learning and do not power slide car on a track nor brake with steering inputs at all compared to how it gets done at AX but still previous tires were going away way way faster.

i needed that for A6 which i do not run now, but as i said above - grip is fine and wear is equal so far, so, i see no reason to change alignment.

FYI- I've got a new pair of 18" 345 Kumho V710's for sale cheap. I mounted and test fit them but they don't work with my wheels. They are DOT legal but not really street tires, faster than RA1s though. Send me a PM if you are interested.

i had them before but as i drive to track 2.5 or 1.5 hours I will shred them during those drives.
I really need to make tire trailer during this winter and change to hoosiers as they do have all possible sizes... will see if it will work out.
