OT w/video: CJ Gets His First Major League Hit....
Our CJ Ichiban whacked a 400ft triple yesterday to open the 3rd inining in Houston for his first major league hit. As an American League pitcher, he only gets to hit a few times a year when they're playing at an "away" game at a National League team park. He made the most of the oppportunity. Oh yea, he also pitched a pretty good game going 7 and earning the win despite being hit twice, on his foot and throwing index finger.

Congrats! Anyone think he was wanting to hit for the cycle after that, since he got the hardest hit out of the way?
Maybe he can pop in here and let us know what his hitting stats were pre-conversion to pitcher. I'm pretty sure I asked him way back when, but I forget.

Well he should have learned something watching Clif Lee last year.
Lee is probably the best hitting pitcher in the game, and now he's back where he belongs!

Well Philly sure seems to agreee with him. I think he's 5-0 this month with 3 consecutive shutouts, and a ERA of something like .21 (not a missprint)....

Cliff Lee is a career .159 hitter with zero career HRs...that doesn't even make him and average hitter for a pitcher! CC Sabathia, Micah Owings, Mike Hampton (before he retired) are/were great hitting pitchers.

Ok Mr. Statistician. When he was with NL teams (i.e. the Phillies) he hit .208 with 72 at bats. Agreed, not the absolute best ever best, but certainly in the same league as CC who hit .229 in the NL. AL batting percentages are a joke as it only thake a few hits to skew the entire average. Clif Lee had more at bats with the Phillies than for the rest of his career.
But why are you taking this so far of topic when it is all supposed to be about CJ and his triple?

HUGE congrats to our guy CJ! Pitchers that can hit are the coolest, especially when they're in the AL where they don't get any practice. Now you're one of them.
Cliff Lee's doing great right now. But I can't help but think about how Texas traded for him because they expected him to win in the WS, and then he got beat twice by the Giants.
