Porsche Recalls Center Wheel Hubs and Locks

I am sure M's car will be awesome. That roof panel alone is worth 2 seconds...

..the new GT3 is art on wheels even if these wheels are a bad idea.
BTW The whole setup is heavier wheels and mechanism.
the old one was just 5 bolts x 95 grams + 20 grams for the plastic center cup..
The new bolts are heavier than this and you have to add the weight of the pins on the new rotor hats..
As another Rler said rather eloquently :
"The only weigh savings are in our pockets from associated costs.."

Race cars have centerlock wheels for fast tire changes not for weight reasons. The only race cars with 5 lug wheels are Nascar / Grand Am GT or other lower level series where cost is the driver.
World Rally use 5 lug wheels, but they don't change tires ON a rally stage so no time savings with centerlocks.

I've not only had the wheels off of a few of these but also had the rotors, calipers, and more off. While it is a minimal difference, it is still a difference.

Nice, but there is more different. Hubs, nut, and more. Drive pins on the rotor hats are surprisingly extremly light !

if you are talking about the CL for 7.2gt3/rs street car, no, they are POS. there is absolute NO way you can beat me changing wheels compared to 5 lugs.
1. you have to take the center cover off. if you dont run the center cover, dust gets in, water gets in, it gets stuck. if you try to take the center cover off fast, you will bend it.
2. the CL nut is alum. can't run impact gun on it. you have to loosen it first, with a long lever. then remove the adaptor nut no the long lever so you can hand unwind the CL nut off.
3. to get it to 400 ftlb, you need someone to stop on the brake pedal or use a dead man stick to hold the pedal down.
4. if you get a flat and call AAA, they will have no clue how to get the thing on off with the correct torque.

What I did say, or dispute, was that they were in fact lighter, not by much, but they are.
And I know about torquing them and how it is a 2 man PITA procedure.

I never claimed they were faster to change or that I even liked them. I wish Porsche would have left the 5 lug on the street cars.

lighter and a great "concept"...
execution in this case, not so much.
