so i see this older car costs almost same as used 997 cup cars do - i admit i know nothing of 993 RSRs - what makes it so great, could anybody explain? no pun intended, just curious.

Last of the air cooled race cars, and I do believe that they only made 28 real 993 RSRs so the price has more to do with collectability than performance as a 996 Cup can walk away from one.

Supply and demand. The 993's were the last of the aircooled cars and production numbers were much much lower than the 996/997. I would hazard to say that Porsche sells more 997 cups into the states than it does in Europe for the cup series. With the 993 cup, rsr, and gt2 the factory built just enough for the professional teams and cup series. 993's will continue to go up in value, the 996 cups seem to have bottomed and the 997's will depreciate until they hit bottom.

ouch, a collector`s car, i see now. I did not even think of that aspect, it makes perfect sense, i was only thinking of its racing aspects/capabilities alone.

Phil's right, it's all about supply.

@Evan: I wouldn't say a 996 Cup would walk away from a 993 RSR, I've beaten many 996 Cups.
