What is Ferrari going to say? They don't have to pay Alonso's salary for the next 5 years as the tab is being picked up by Santander on top of the $29m they paid Kimi to walk away. Ferrari is saving $150m as long as they give the public perception that Alonso is great, Santander will pay their countryman. Pretty simple really.

If a set of the crappy Pirelli club racing slicks cost me $2400, I doubt F1 slicks are $1500 a set.
But I agree. They should give each team a fixed number of tires for qualifying, and a fixed number for the race. That's all you get. The amount could vary by track, but I hate seeing tire strategies in qualifying. I want to see the fastest damned car and lap each team can develop.

But, yeah, most definitely, give 'em enough rubber to qualify on without the worry of babying tires with the view to having to start the race on them. Makes for a boring Q2 and Q3

I guess these are the facts you are using to justify your claim;
Vettel: 118
Hamilton: 77
Alonso: 51
Good at math I see. F1 uses Arabic numerals and works from lowest to highest. Highest being the one who wins the WDC. Points are awarded by besting the other drivers on the circuit. There, does that makes sinse?

I have nothing against Vettel I think he has a lot talent with a great career but had the shoe been on the other foot there is no way he would have held off Alonso in a Red Bull for 20 laps or been able to pressure a Hamilton in a Red Bull for 10.
Of course we will never know until Ferrari and Mclaren get a car on par with Red Bull for their drivers.
Randy we just having a conversation no need to get hot. Now tell me something is that you or Sean in the below picture I loose track.

Having Newey, Rory Byrne, or even to some degree, Ross Brawn, on your team is in my opinion as valuable if not moreso than having Vettel, Alonso, or Hamilton. Those guys all know that this isn't karting where the driver can make a true run at anyone else in the field because of the equality of the machinery. Sign Newey and Vettel, Alonso, and Hamilton are bound to consider following.

+1. Like in any form of motorsports, you need the entire package (driver, car/kart, team, tires, luck etc) to win. You can't win in karting with a chassis or engine that is not top notch. Painful but true even at the entry level... Even in spec racing, there are more cars that are more "spec" than others...

A couple of pictures for the Spanish GP, click on them for more photos - and guys definitely check out the Pirelli GP Challenge fantasy game, we are giving away a set of Pirellis (up to 19 inch) after every race and a trip to Belgian every 4 races! We can't wait to see a winner from Rennlist!

Let me help you with my point Randy as it is tough for you to grasp the obvious.

Oh ye of thin skin. Apparently you take these F1 threads MUCH more seriously than most of us. These are almost universally Hyperbolic Bull**** Banter full of bets and throw downs, not internet call outs. Get a clue.
Now, taking you reasoning to it`s logical conclusion regarding who wins and why, all 1 races should be decided in one of THESEthese. This way Newey gets real points. Drivers don`t matter, right? Unless they are Hamilton and Alonso (using your point system).

Randy Randy Randy,
No thin skin but maybe you are correct maybe I do take it to seriously, but my point being lost is probably my frustration. I am a huge Alonso fan, this is obvious. I agree that he has had, as the Raptor put it "moral compass" issues. But here is my view my friend. Alonso is the best driver in the field, why, a perfect cocktail of passion and raw talent. He is amazing to watch. I know you and Pete probably wanted him to loose a wheel in the first 19 laps he lead but as true drivers and lovers of racing tell me it did not thrill you, tell me it did not amaze you. As far as his moral compass I actually think we have been spoon fed cold and boring Englishmen and Germans and have been programed to scorn "passion". He gets pissed off and says things or does things he should not because he is passionate. Should Senna have stuffed Prost, his team mate in Japan, NO! Why did he, because he was passionate and history has forgiven him. I think the same will come off Fernando. When I watch the post race and qualifying he is always congratulating other drivers and shaking hands with people, the only one's who obviously can't stand each other are Webber and Vettel, but i do not see any criticism of that. An Italian team with a Spanish and Brazilian driver line up is the most disfunctional group of mother f'ers but they are passionate and I love them for it! This sport needs less tires designed to fail and wings designed to fold down and a major dose of passion. Our beloved Porsche races in ALMS and club events and everywhere in between on privateers with passion. All I ask is you reach down deep one day and admit he is an amazing talent.
Hamilton is second best in my book, since he has matured he has become a true heavyweight and a real threat this year and in raw talent is next to Fernando.
Vettel I think is third, he is a great talent destined for greatness, of this there is no doubt but he needs to mature still and he is currently riding the wave of the best designer in the sport maybe ever. No doubt that it takes a great driver to bring the most out of the car but he is not quiet at the top, yet. Therefore the playing field is being skewed by this amazingly designed car and not really indicative of where he really compares to the other two fellas mentioned above.
A few years back when Schumi was at his peak with Ferrari and Newey was at McLaren there was a huge article done by I believe Autosport comparing the two and asking who was more important for a team Newey or Schumi. I do not remember the conclusion but I if I ask myself today at Red Bull who is more important Newey or Vettel the answer is, at least to me crystal clear, Adrian Newey.
But it is a team sport and Red Bull currently have the magic hopefully Ferrari and McLaren can do something to make this season more of a nail biter at the end.
Until then FORZA FERRARI and FORZA ALONSO!
On to Monaco!
