During a wreck, when things count, plastic seats deform quite a bit.

Ideally there wouldn't be a trade-off.

Agreed. I am a big guy. I imagine folks smaller in stature don't have quite the same problems with these seats.

Not necessarily, I'm short, so I have the seat rather forward and it's fixed. This puts you closer to the A-piller. I'll probably be replacing my seat next season, and don't know if I'll be able to do an HR seat. I'm definitely going to give it a try though.

There are a few cheats you can do to help yourself in a Miata as well as other cars, especially if you're short. Leaning the seat back can give you some more room, you might have to spacer the steering wheel/QR etc.

Yeah, I have a QR wheel. My seat is fixed, and I am relatively close to the wheel (my preferred position).

He He, think I'm already there. When I do the new seat, I'll probably re-design my custom brackets too, that may help a smidge.

Best thing I sever did in my spec miata was take the desired seat, spec the seating and wheel position... and have Piper build the cage around it. Instead of vice versa.

man, what a hit!
thank you for sharing.

these are terrible events but also, as noted repeatedly, learning tools for all of us think more about driver safety and not to think we will necessarily see it coming when it comes.

I know, I was hit just like this at Mid-Ohio the end of the back straight. Halo seat, great cage, no injuries to either party besides the wallet
