Tough crowd with a bit of wisdom interspersed . . . 
Lower cost of replacement tires and higher grip level would seem to be key deciding factors in a general sense. As others have shared, DEs are more about the driver learning, then maximizing the performance of a street car on the track. Above all else, safety first.
