There are a couple of different Dewalt 1/2" drive impact tools. I bought the smaller(nla) 057 version rated @ ~140 ft-lbs. It's perfect. Current equivalent is the DC820B @145ft-lb

the largest 1/2" version is the DW059B @ 300 ft-lbs and there is also an in between DC821KA @ 160 ft-lb

the most desirable is probably be a Li Ion battery DC822KL @145 ft-lbs

there are several good places to buy such as Tyler Tool

I agree that if you use it for assembly a torque stick is a great safety feature

I just saw...I think it's Car & Driver...a impact wrench shoot out and the Bosch and Makita won out. They did not like the Milwaukee as much as you all here like it.

As "unbiased" as C&D usually is ( ), I wonder how even the test was...

As I said go with the 1/2" (395 ftlbs of torque) 18.8v DeWalt. Start the bolts with your socket by hand... use the impact until it ratchets 1x... then torque with your torque wrench. The battery will last longer with the 18.8v... especially if you use the 1/2 drive unit. The 3/8 unit will wipe the battery out fast if you change wheels more then once a day.

I love my Ingersoll Rand, it is a perfect performer always. The battery life is great and the build is top notch. It is second best to the snap on. After using the snap on one, you can always see why snap on gets the price for there tools and no one ever regrets buying one

Hold the presses! My office manager just put the new Car and Driver on my desk and there is a cordless impact wrench shoot out. Haven't read it yet.

Though I will probably get ridicule for it here, but I have a Ryobi 18v impact wrench and have had zero problems with it. It is part of their One Plus system, and with the lithuanian battery, it does last a long time. Plus I can use the same battery for my portable air pump - more convenient than plugging into a ciggy lighter, and less space than an airtank. I do loosen the lug nuts with a breaker bar first, and tighten with a torque wrench - but I would do that regardless of what impact wrench I have...

I have the Milwaukee impact. Lithium Ion batteries hold their charge forever. It's rated at 450 ft lbs and it easily removes lug nuts, etc...

Car and Driver shoot out is what it is. But it does not compare my Milwaukee (2663-20) with the Bosch.

The red ones tend to very top heavy and just all around heavy. They might have improved or I might have been handed a bad one but the one I used a few years ago had a poor trigger and wanted to fall over in my hand. 0% to 50% power at first touch.

Just bought the 1/2" drive Milwaukee from Amazon. Been watching CPOutlet and they have been out of the reconditioned models and even pulled the 2662 off the list. The 2663 has been out of stock, but price went up to $299 anyway. Their new price also went up to $379. Amazon has a special so got the 2663-20 WITH an extra battery (so 3 total) for $329. Also bought the drill/hammer for $74 as my dewalt 18v batteries are dead. Cheaper to buy new tool than new battery.
