I got this one as I did not want to spend too much on this what I thought was quite a useless item
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HCROG4

I agree with review on it 'Looks like a fisher-Price toy, but does the job'. It is able to unscrew torqued in lugs fine and I think for $90 it is more than OK performance.
it does about of 90-110 lbs/ft, enough to undo lugs.

The sears unit and realy nice to use. works much better than the 1/2" dewalt, lighter more powerful, variable and uses normal 18v batteries or the newer lithium ones. price is right to.

The best tool I own is my Ingersol Rand torque wrench. I'm sure they all work well, except for the POC Harbor Freight one I had before the IR. There is something about having a high quality tool...............

to simplify all that - there are $100, $200, $300 and $400 wrenches. I am yet to see how $100 24v unit works worse than $200 18v unit.

Look at 'also viewed' list at below link.

You know I was just thinking this weekend that my Snap On hasn't been holding up the charge as it use to and that it was an expensive POS, then I realized it's probably been 10-11 years that I have had it now. I guess I should expect to replace a battery once every 10+ years of faithful commercial use.

I'll check with my Snap On dealer for a new battery and also a few other resources I have and let you know JR.

Onefastviking, I had the 14 V battery for my 9 year old Snap-On rebuilt for $40. Strap-on wants $140 for a new one. I work at a dealership and the local Interstate delivery truck will take and return the battery rebuilt with no shiping charges.
There are also plenty of on line shops that will rebuild and I think Interstate can do it on line as well. I have had DeWalt 18V batteries rebuilt in the past and they work just as well as new. Now I wait for Home Depot to have a sale on the Dewalts and get them for the same price as rebuilding. No such luck with Snap-On....

If I were to buy a cordless impact gun again it would be the IR gun. Good unit good battery life and good price for what you get.

Things like a good trigger and gun balance are important. Any of the real impact guns will bust a lug nut loose but the VSR unts that have good triggers can also be used to set or remove small nuts and bolts as well.

Variable speed trigger was a big one for me, I ended up with a Milwaukee 18v and am happy.

I have a 14V Snappy and and 18V Snappy, I think I will have the 14V rebuilt then can do the 18V one next. I was thinking of using Interstate, the guy there has been very helpful and reasonable with some battery jump boxes that needed new batteries in them.

Local Batteries Plus store installed a new Nicad in my Snap-On 18v for $65. Lithium Ion would have been just over $100. Does not seem to pack the same punch it use to though... I use it commercially so it has seen a lot of use. Would buy one of the recon Milwaukees, but they are out of stock.

So far so good with my Milwaukee 18V - works great, will see how it performs long-term.

You may have had different and better experiences (or lower expectations), but I am done with cheap tools. If I am gpoing to use it regularly, I refuse to buy things that will be thrown away.

Best,

Matt
