Question Has anyone here tried Mobil1 Racing 0W-50?

No oil brand debates, please. I am just looking for actual experiences in track-only cars with this racing oil: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...ing_0W-50.aspx

Thanks.

i was told to use this and have no issues with it. as i understand it is the only SAE50 officially 'approved' by Porsche.

Thanks, but that is for cars that are driven on street & track. the racing oil I am asking about is for non-catalytic converter cars, racing use.

I use it since mine is older flat tappet. The only empirical data I have is my bank account gets smaller quicker than with regular Mobil 1. Other than that, I have no constructive comments to offer...

some spec boxsters owners i know use Brad Penn "Green Oil" 20-50W. I think Charles from LN Engineering likes that oil too.
mobil 1 racing is a good oil from what was written about it, like zddp levels at 1800ppm somewhat area, but it just seems to be a bit pricey.

Thanks.

I looked at the specs for it previously and didn't see any large benefit over what I currently use, it did cost more tho. I should add that I don't think with modern days oils you can see much a difference short term. I do think you can determine more by knowing what is in the oil and then watching oil samples on your motor over a period of time.

As you know, some oils are better for some cars due to a variety of reasons, type of lifter, cam, rocker,cats/no cats, detergents vs foaming, etc etc etc. This will affect peoples experiences and recommendations.

What are you looking at it for ? M3 ?

Yes, for the M3. I use M1 15-50 now, but it is a non-cat track only car. Looking for same high temp protection with less rolling resistance...thanks.

Mike...LMAO! Exactly.

Ok, then the next question would be how often do you, or do you plan on, changing the oil ?
And why do you want to change from your current use ? The less rolling resistance won't do much, you might see a few hp at best. It could even result in less hp with the lighter oil allowing lifter bleed down causing less valve opening = less power.

I would speculate that also the lighter weight oil could effect the Vanos performance as well since it is oil fed hydralic operated. I wouldn't think it would if everything were new and perfect but as things get older then it could run a lower pressure and some negative performance effect.
My BMW Vanos experience is limited so I would suggest you consult your BMW tech for proper recommendation regarding this before just taking my word on it.

Can be ordered direct or thru select dealer / suppliers. Mark, OG could probably become a dealer for it if there is sufficent demand.

More info here.......
