Default 944 spec question

so i am planning on building a 944 spec car. The issue ive run into is the tub i want to use is a turbo. As far as ive ever seen, the turbo tub is identical to the n/a tub besides the vin tag. Any reason to dispute this. I know that the rules say -"only 944 n/a cars 8v" but im guessing they werent planning on anyone stripping out a turbo and putting all n/a running gear on it.

We have considered this situation. However since we have never studied in detail a 951 tub along side 944 tub from the same model year we cannot validate the difference. I know the turbo S tubs a slightly different from the standard turbo tub. It is quite possible the turbo tub has some differences beyond just a few brackets.

So since we do not have hard evidence they are the same we cannot risk allowing them as there could turn out to be some unknown advantage. We do allow 944S tubs because when stripped we cannot distinguish the even with VIN numbers. Turbo tubs we can spot by VIN.

So in short turbo tubs are not legal in 944 spec. However you can probably get a 944 na tub for very cheap.

XS Boost -

Love the "Dragon Somemthing" car

There are new, and growing contingent of 944 Spec racers in your area - a great time to get involved! Even NASA Nationals is coming to your back yard! John Zeeman from A Part Above (www. APartAbove.com) is out in your area, and likely has some N/A tubs for cheap.

yeah there are plenty of bodies around. I may just try to find a built car and take it apart, redo it - cuz that how i am- and sell off what i didnt use. I need a pretty race car...im just like that.

Why not use the Chump car. Already has the cage so you are part way there. They will probably make you removed the wings from the roof

Agree, if the cage is NASA legal (or can be made so).

It'd make a cool 5th or 6th car to start the Great Lakes Region this year!

yes i bought a nice 87 944 8v and a list of parts to go in. So far ive bought...

rollbar from www.hanksvillehotrods.com - spec legal cage w/ nascar ds bar

8v 88 high compression motor from my bud locally -

full rebuild kit w/ bearings/seal etc from www.rennbay.com
new front rotors, bearing kit, rear Koni shocks and 30mm torsions from there as well.

fire suppression system, brake hoses,350lb front springs, hot lap timer set from www.paragon-products.com

hawk blue pads f/r from www.lindseyracing.com

four pole shutoff switch from www.speedwayracing.com

window net, center net, g-force harnesses, helmet tinted shield and lots o' stickers from www.usracegear.com which is local to me so i just walked in and bought it off the shelf.

set of shaved RA1 225/50/15 tires from www.frisbytire.com

now i need to finish some other projects so i can start gutting the inside, weld up the cage, think up a paint scheme, build a motor, swap motors, find some tow hooks, rollbar padding etc....
