I use the Chatter Box with 2 ear pieces and mic that I installed into my helmet and I have the mono-solo unit that my student slips in his helmet. I've been using this motorcycle system for 3 years now with zero issues.

I had the Chatterbox, but it was kindly "liberated" by some TSAholes on my way to Sebring for WinterFest in January. Just replaced it with Nady. Half the cost, same mediocre audio quality...

Dbltime:
You have the two choices mentioned above. Here's information on both. The big difference is really durability. The Chatterbox will last for years, unless students yank the headsets out my the wire. Take some racers tape or a zip tie and tie the wire off the boom so if they do pull on it, it will not pull the contacts out of the earpiece. The NADY is cheap, but not as sturdy.

I use the NADY system for the same reason as VR... If it breaks, gets lifted by a set of sticky fingers or just craps the bed... it can be replaced cheap! I got my last unit from Amazon.

Side note: For those of you with integrated electronics in your helmets who despise ramming the communicator ear piece up your helmet, http://www.syncspeedinc.com/racing.htm makes an adapter cable to use your IMSA/NASCAR radio plug and electronics with the Chatterbox plug. I just bought one, haven't had a chance to use it yet.

While I never used the Nady before (I had had the Chatterbox for years, for the reasons Mark suggests), I do like the fact that it uses AAA batteries....so if th eunit goes dead during the middle of a coaching day, I can just throw a new set of batteries in (I now carry extras in my coaching bag) rather than having to plug in the recharger & wait.

That said, I really can't wait for Bluetooth versions of these communicators become reasonably priced. Tangled cords suck.

VR, Chatterbox does have Bluetooth version between both helmets. I believe there are other brands too. Go check out a BMW motorcycle dealership or Honda, they seem to have the higher end communicators.

OK, thanks, Mike. Last time I looked, they were very pricey. Maybe I should look again...

I'm switching to a Peltor FMT110: http://www.peltor.se/int/Product.asp...&Product_Id=53

There are a few places where you can get them. Stable Energies is going to carry them

you have to admit it pretty low to steel someones communicator.

I use the chatterbox, i have had it for 3 years and it seams as if the battey recharge life is getting shorter. I do carry a dc converter in the truck if I am not around a power supply but VR is right pain in botox if it goes dead.

Yeah...they were kind enough to leave the little white TSAhole card telling me they had gone through my big Sparco racing bag, though.

Thankfully, they left my far more valuable HANS and helmet.

I still use the chatterbox. Permanent installation in my helmet, Nady old news. Peltor larger unit. Don't overcharge chatterbox. 2-3 hr maximum. New batteries, parts available at stableennergies.com.
Communicators required to Instruct at NASA NE.

went through 2 or 3 nadys got a chatterbox and never looked back. Baring it getting swiped it is well better than the little blue box nady. Be sure to instruct your student not to pull the student headset out of the helment by the boom mike this can break it. I have the student let the student end fall out of the helment when they pull the helmet off.
