That's a bummer! The phrase "I was seventh" comes to mind as you are waiting to rejoin. I'm going with the love tap theory.

My cars tow hitch is missing and it opened the side of Rainer's car like a can opener. Not really that bad though. He was a complete gentlemen about the incident.

My car is another story. a total disaster.
Besides the new front bumper it looks like I need a complete engine and trans rebuild with new Guards LSD, He ruined the coilovers as the springs are missing, only the shocks remain. The 16 inch BBS wheels are toast and need to replaced with 15's. The list goes on and on.

Good thing we had a " you break it you bought " agreement for the enduro

IMHO... and I do mean humble, since I've never driven the track...

its a bit hard to tell with the video but it looks like you have no steering angle in at all at the point of the spin, and there was plenty of braking zone ahead of you, even with a bit of rear lockup I've never had a 911 snap spin in a straight line with no steering input, maybe a missmatched downshift helped but shouldn't be an issue with a LSD...I'd be taking a second look at the rear bumper for evidence of a little "help"...

...there are some ominous telltales of skidmarks that you followed exactly, is there a bump or offcamber hump in the track at that point that unsettles the chassis?... there is a vibration in the camera at the point where things start to come unglued...bump? or tap?...

There is a little bump. It may have let the rear lock. Chalk it up to knowing the track better if that's what happened. It did feel like there was something on the track. That's what I want to believe

Next question I have for the future is how to recover in that situation. I have no doubt that my reaction was inadequate once the spin started. I think my hands were quick enough but I think my feet were slow. If I had gotten off the brake would the spin have stopped? Going hard on the brakes probably lightened the rear even more and accelerated the spin.

He finished the race I believe. He truly could not have been nicer about it. Rainer I mean.

It was a loooooong 15 hour drive home with Scott . . . .

It looks as if you did the classic countersteer and both feet in which is a safe thing to do, but with the amount of open track before the corner you could have come off the brake and back on the throttle and like you said get some grip back to the rear.

It's a tricky thing to calculate in a fraction of a second if it's saveable or it's better to ride it out. A tankslapper in the middle of the pack could have you collecting more than one car. If it was due to contact and a PIT maneuver well not much you could do but lean on him, that would make for more damage...

I hate to burst the bubble on the "love tap" idea, but my video from the incident is pretty clear - no offenders nearby. As for "how bad", the tow hook punctured the quarter panel and the bumper scraped the wheel and bumper cover. It could have been much worse.

Rainer, that was one diabolically clever way to steal a tow hook...
