Default Club Race Enduro Question

Every year when we start the planning of our May Club Race at Mid-Ohio Which by the way is May 13-15, 2011, we have a discussion about the how long the Enduro should be. As you know there are those who like the 1.5 hr and those who do not like to refuel and want a 1 hr.

My question: do any other club races schedule the 1.5 hr enduro and then throw a flag at the 1 hr. mark for those who only want to compete for the hr and then the rest of the field continues on for the full run? We are considering this option would like to know if any other PCA race is doing it that way and any issues it creates.

I know in NASA they do it, I have done it there and works fine as far as I can tell.

Hope to see you guys at MO we are going to put on a hell of a show this year.

Hey Frank, I can't comment on what other PCA regions do...but IMO a 60 minute race cannot be called an enduro.

Totally agreed. Why don't you guys run a 2 hour enduro? That would make the event quite unique and potentially even better than it already is imho.

You get alot on National intervention. Getting to run the pro course took years.

In theory that would be fun. But, that would absolutely mandate refueling for 99% of the cars. And I for one, will not have that capability (ie a crew).

I think 60 minute "enduros" are better at smaller tracks like Putnam. But at Mid Ohio, 90 is probably best. However, maybe more people would race a 60 minute enduro... for some reason 90 minute enduros seem to be getting less and less popular.

And also, if we're voting, I'd just assume not run the Pro course again. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we did it... But I love the chicane.

I'm looking forward to it; regardless of the format!!

I love the enduro's, and I don't think 60 minutes is a real enduro, just a long sprint.
And if I were voting, I'd rather run the pro course. Not a fan of the chicane. To me, the chicane eliminates a passing spot. (not that I passed anyone last year, but maybe next time!)

Jack, You can't make it 90 minutes without refueling? Must be running the nitrous bottle.

I find that the SCs and the Carreras end up fuel starving after 60 minutes...

I know a couple guys at Sebring with Carreras didn't get fuel at all in the enduro, though one never stopped for his pit AT ALL....got hung out because of the yellows...

If I were going, I'd vote 2 hr enduro. 1 mandatory 5 min. pit stop.

Most cars, like mine, with Fuel Cells can only go about an hour w/o refueling.

2 driver teams can manage the pit stop with fueling and driver change w/o difficulty. Though new Fuel Cells have that restrictor in the fill spout which slows things down. Total PITA.

Ha! Chris, no I can make a 90 minute enduro without refueling (if I add 125 lbs of ballast). It's a 2 hour enduro that I wouldn't be able to do (without refueling).

And Bob, I wasn't really impressed with the added passing opportunity on the Pro course... It seemed to reward more hp and bigger brakes whereas the chicane takes more skill (and courage) to be fast. Again, I was excited to finally run the Pro course last year... but given the choice, I would choose the Club course any day.

90 minutes all the way - the more track time the better

Well, I got the bigger brakes, and the less skill, hence 2 out of 3 reasons I like the pro course better than the chicane.

2 hours would be fun but i think 90 minutes is the way to go. I must take on fuel and yes it is a PITA but when you do the pit stop right, it is very rewarding. Jack, if we are in different enduros, I would be willing to be on your CRUE.
