Default Bought a new Stilo Helmet Today

I decided that the weakest link in my safety equipment was my helmet. I've been using an Arai helmet which I think has always been a bit on the large side for me so I went to HMS today to pick up a new Stilo helmet.

As much as I wanted the pure carbon fiber one, I was cost conscious and went for the composite ST4F model. I also opted for the radio prep kit on the left hand side. The current jack that Stilo makes is for a Motorola type radio. HMS showed me the prototype of a cable they will start selling which mounts to the Motorola type jack on the helmet and has a serial connector on the other end that will fit a Chatterbox connection.

The helmet fits me so much better than my old Arai and I am confident that I have really gained extra safety.

Something I didn't realize until I was there today talking to Derek and Joe....HMS supplies the majority of harnesses to NASCAR and INDY. Wow!

I can see a HK custom paint job coming...

Between myself and my son, we've worn Ren & Stimpy, Roadrunner & Wile E Coyote and South Park.

PM me if you want the contact info for the artist...

No wonder why our health care costs are so high. It's all to support your habit.

See you in April!

Hi Dave,

Great looking helmet, FYI , We are the pcompany making the cables for them for the Stilo helmets, we are also making one that goes from the helmet's male IMSA connector- a scanner input.

PS, you might run across the Spec Boxster that I built last year with your old hardtop next year, I sold it to a gentleman from Canada that talked about running it in the NE. You should have no trouble picking it out, it still had the paw print outlines across the top.

Great helmet Dave. Is it way more heavy than the carbon version?

I need to buy an ew one too, so I'll start looking too.

The composite helmet is 0.2 lbs heavier than pure CF.
Mine weighs 3.3 lbs I think.

I really like that helmet, especially the integrated communications capability. Interested to hear about the comfort of the ear pads. Please report back when you get a chance to wear it.

Definitely tops the list for my next helmet. Current helmet is OK but once all the 2010 models are out I will probably pick one up later in the year.

Was looking at some new helmets recently as well, really like the stilo... Price is higher than I would like to spend but the price increase from the composite to the carbon fibre is just ridiculous.

The helmet is quite comfortable around the ear pieces. I don't have pics of the inside but the ear areas look like those old padded oval head phones and are of course removable. I won't get a chance to wear it on the track until April assuming the snow ever goes away here.

Yes, it's the 2010 certification.
