One point of procedural concern: Top Gear (UK) has the best travel specials of any show I've seen. This may ('may,' not 'will certainly') make them getting a visa to shoot there a little more difficult.

And that's a shame, because a North America to South America tour would really be something to see!

Mexico's tourism industry is hurting so badly right now I doubt they would refuse anyone from the media a visa (unless they wanted to cover the drug situation). Carnival just moved another ship out of the San Diego port because everyone is afraid to go to Mexico. Hopefully their situation will improve, they have much bigger problems than some guy making a joke on a TV show 99.9% of the country will never see.

The ambassador needs to quit being a puss. Is this the first time he watched anything other than "Sabado Gigante" on TV? He'll have a heart attack if he ever sees Southpark or last season of Eastbound and Down!

Sorry.

The first amendment does NOT guarantee YOU freedom of speech. It guarantees that Congress won't make any LAW restricting freedom of speech. Different deal entirely. As a professional journalist, I can tell you that there is no more misunderstood... nor misquoted... amendment.

It was written to protect religious freedom.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Period.

It does not extend to British car shows on the BBC.

A trip through the US and Canada yes, including Mexico, not a chance. Top Gear has fun at some people's expense. Nothing funnier to me that watching a piano getting dropped on a POS car or listening to a good joke. Lighten up Mexico, you have much bigger problems.

The news segment last week was hilarious and I watched it 3 times. The banter is awesome, that's why I love the show. Gotta hand it to the Brits and their public broadcasting channel

I was really shocked when I saw Hammond say this stuff. Not because jokes like that are shocking, but because it actually got aired on the BBC. Funny that typical humor from 10 or 20 years ago is now considered shocking by most people, insulting by some, and racist by others. Come on guys, it's just comedy.

I did make the comment to my wife that there's no way in heck they'll ever air that episode in the U.S. And that's kinda sad that the U.S. has grown even more PC than the U.K.

Anyone read a Top Gear magazine from a month or two ago where the writer (not one of the TV hosts) and a sidekick ran a Boxster from somewhere to the coast on a "hell road" that's soon to be replaced by a superhighway? Wasn't exactly flattering to the country............

As to the show, I thought the finale of the Top Gear "Ashes" competition was more entertaining. Highly edited, of course. And the Boris Becker interview was good.

I was deeply offended at their insults towards Mexican food.

It's just Top Gear being Top Gear.

I like how everyone can laugh about the mexican jokes or tell them to grow up and stop whining.. but if they said something about African people all hell would break loose.

And most of the people in this thread would have a different opinion regarding it.
